Robert Hugh McCracken

            Robert Hugh McCracken passed away in his home in Brighton, CO on October 23, 2015.  He was born on May 21, 1936 in Heartstrong, Colorado south of Yuma, to Helen Faye Watson and Charlie McCracken.  He was the last surviving member of his family that included 8 children.

            He leaves behind his wife of 60 wonderful years, Dorothy Arlene (Luellen) whom he married on August 21, 1955.  Together they had 4 children.  Cindy Martinez (Matt) of Parker, CO; Greg McCracken (Marcy) of Aurora, CO; Sandra McCracken of Denver, CO; and Cheryl Hollingsworth(Terry) of Keenesburg, CO.  Bob is also survived by his sister in-laws Betty Franson, Teddy McCracken, and Dorothy McCracken.

            Bob enjoyed the love and attention of his wife and children but mostly his 8 grandchildren– Amber (Chris), Nicole, Joseph, Daniel, Mandy, Cara, Kelli, and Glen.  And also time with 4 great-grand children – Davien, Sierra, Haven, and Ryan.

            Bob spent his working career and then retired from Safeway, Inc.  He managed stores all over the Denver area and could rarely go anywhere without someone recognizing him from his years of service.

            While Bob and Arlene spent most of their years in Aurora, CO and raised their kids there, they most recently lived on acreage in Keenesburg, CO for 15 years and then moved into Brighton in September.

            Over the years, Bob enjoyed family vacations, helping on the Luellen and Franson farms, spending time at the mountain cabin with friends and family, and playing cards at family get togethers – he was the “king of cards!”

            His funeral will be held in Ft. Lupton, CO at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday, October 30 at 3:00p.m.  Inurnment will be Saturday, October 31 at 2:00 at Yuma Cemetery.   Lunch will be provided Saturday at the home of Betty Franson from 11:00 – 1:00.
