Margaret (Peg) Ann Kennedy Souser of Akron, Colorado passed away on April 19, 2016 at the age 83.

Peg was born on June 18, 1932 in Sterling to Harry Arthur Kennedy and Hazel Mae Ecord Kennedy. She was raised on their family farm near Lone Star and graduated from Lone Star School in 1950. After graduation she began working for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Sterling.  She married Raymond (Jay) Hughes in 1952. Together they had three children, Sandy, Kathy and Mark. During their ten-year marriage, Jay’s position with Shell Oil Company as a seismograph operator saw them travelling the country living in Wyoming, North Dakota, and Arkansas.

Peg and her children resided in Kansas until the fall of 1970 when they moved back to Colorado. There she reconnected with Clarence Souser, Jr.; a former farmhand of her father’s. She and Clarence were married August 13, 1971. Together they had two children, a stillborn son Kevin and daughter Christa. They built a new home north of Otis and lived and farmed there until Clarence’s health forced him to retire from farming in 1995.

Peg helped on the farm and also worked outside of the home in several different positions, but her favorite job was working as Secretary of the Lone Star School from 1975 – 1984. She made many lasting friendships there.

A skilled seamstress, Peg enjoyed making clothes for her kids and grandkids. She was also very talented at cross-stitching. An avid reader, she was very fond of westerns and romance novels. She was a history buff, mainly when it came to the events and figures of the Old West. She really delighted in visiting historical sites, especially when joined by her sister Mary. Pride in her Irish heritage was instilled in Peg from a young age. She loved the color green, Irish songs, and always celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. A big sports fan, Peg followed Colorado teams and enjoyed college basketball in particular.

Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Souser Jr.; son Kevin Souser; two infant sisters; parents Harry and Hazel Kennedy; son-in-law Jerry Hahn; mother and father-in-law Clarence Sr. and Mary Souser; ex-husband Jay Hughes, sisters-in-law Dorothy Haggland, Opal Smith, Lillian Wheeler, and Betty Seel; brothers-in-law Robert Souser, Eugene Wheeler, and Claude Seel; and nephews Mike Detwiler, Doyle Souser, and Kenneth Seel.
