SYLVIA ANN JANSSEN

1927  -  2016

Sylvia Ann Janssen, 88, of Yuma, Colorado passed away at her home on Thursday July 28th, 2016.

Sylvia was born on August 5th, 1927 in Pioneer, Iowa to Stephen and Helen McKinney.  Sylvia attended school in Rockwell City, Iowa. 

On August 16, 1946 Sylvia was united in marriage to Reinard Brown Janssen.  This union was blessed with four children, Gail, Marsha, Cathy, and Grant.  They made their home in Odebolt, Iowa.  In 1986 they moved to Colorado where they would be closer to their two daughters and their son.  Upon retirement they moved to Yuma, Colorado in 2008.

Sylvia was a homemaker and a devoted spouse to her husband Reinard for nearly seventy years. She adored her four children, thirteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grand children.  She loved making sugar cookies for this entire bunch and others.

Sylvia enjoyed cross-stitching and embroidering tea towels and pillow cases for many members of the family.  She was the artist, the photographer of the family taking many, many pictures long before camera phones.  Her artistic nature lead her into painting on a past time basis also.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Helen Mckinney, daughter Cathy Bloyer, son Grant Janssen, great-grand daughter Anna Marie Skinner, and four brothers and three sisters. She was also preceded in death by cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Sylvia is survived by her husband Reinard, daughters Gail(Greg) Cranston of Yuma, Colorado, Marsha(Bill) Belt of Aurora, Colorado, and Son-in-law Dick(Kay) Bloyer of Odebolt Iowa. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and thirty four great-grandchildren spread from Wisconsin to Oklahoma to Colorado.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Marvin(Macel) Janssen, sisters-in-law Ardola Huisenga, Nera Zimmer, Wanda Bulten, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be truly missed by her family and friends. .  The Funeral Service was held on Monday August 1, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Yuma, Colorado with CRE Donna Herman officiating.  Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
