Alice Marie Korf

1931  -  2016

Alice Marie Korf, a long time resident of Yuma County, passed away on July 4, 2016 at the age of 84, at the Yuma District Hospital in Yuma, Colorado.  She was born on December 9, 1931 in Yuma, Colorado to Samuel A and Pearl M. (Uplinger) Jones.  She was married to George Korf in Yuma, Colorado. 

Alice trained as a nurses aid when she was in her mid 30’s and graduated from nursing school in Boulder.  Along with nursing she had several occupations including but not limited to housekeeper at local motels, newspaper distributor for the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post, lawn and yard care, veterinary assistant for Dr. Vic Weickum, Audubon Park packing bird seed, livestock handler at Yuma Sale Barn for Vergil Means and worked at the Yuma County Fair along with many other various things.

Alice collected salt and pepper shakers sets, knitting, latch hook, crocheting, flower gardening, and taking care of animals.  If an animal was injured, sick or homeless she would do her level best to provide care whatever care was needed for as long as it was needed.  When she was able she enjoyed contests and competing with others, it could be a bike riding marathon, walking, entering some of her crafts in the Yuma County Fair, in which she won many ribbons.  She entered several bike riding events and was most always the oldest to participate and always completed the course and was often awarded for being the oldest to compete and complete.  She was very involved with her church activities. 

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Pearl Jones; husband, George A. Korf; brothers, Charlie W. Jones, James R. Jones several other cousins, aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Dembitsky and wife, Sandy of Brush, Colorado; step-son Larry Korf of Fort Morgan, Colorado and step-daughter, Luella Lillich and husband, Keith of Yuma, Colorado; grandchildren, Shannon Evig and husband, Ruben of Yuma, Colorado; Kim Johnson and husband, Matt of Fort Collins, Colorado; Dave and wife, Peggy and Kenny Lillich of Yuma, Colorado; Troy and Jim Korf of Fort Morgan, Colorado; Shelia and Brenda of Merino, Colorado; Michael, Jeff and Russell Marcum of Columbia, Missouri; Lee Ann Rubino and husband, William (Sam’s daughter) of Atlanta, Georgia and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of The Nazarene with Pastor Dave McQuisten officiating.  Inurnment followed at the Yuma Cemetery in Yuma, Colorado.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
