William “BJ” Clarence Johnston, age 78, of Holyoke passed away on August 19, 2022.
He was born on August 4, 1944 to Clarence Wayne and Ellen Mae (Struckmeyer) Johnston.
William was known to most as “BJ”. BJ attended Holyoke Schools and graduated with the class of 1962, he then went to serve his country in the U.S. Navy completing four years and was honorably discharged. He worked for Highline Electric and the City of Holyoke. BJ took pride in making sure the cemetery looked like a million bucks. He retired in 2016.
BJ enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, playing for fifty years as a pitcher. He was also he very good at sinking the ball while playing pool something he also truly enjoyed.
BJ was on the Holyoke Fire Department for many years and retired in good standing. He enjoyed going and doing many different things such as trips to Black Hawk, spending time with his friends whether listening to music or talking about anything that came to mind. He was always a good prankster, he loved to joke and have a good time. For many years you might have caught BJ at a car show in a three state area with his bright yellow cyclone or zipping around Holyoke on his red scooter known as “lil red” one thing is for sure he always had a smile on his face.
William was a great husband to Cheryl Salvador for 32 years. Many of his greatest times were spending time with her and going on many adventures together. It really didn’t matter what they were doing as long as they were together.
