Virginia Laybourn Obituary

Virginia Christeen Laybourn was born on December 6, 1936 to Earvil and Lois Irene (Fourtner) Brooks in Johnson, Kansas.  She passed away on May 5, 2022 at Hillcrest Center in Wray, Colorado after losing her battle to cancer, she was 85 years old.

Virginia quit school to get married and later received her GED and Real Estate License.

Virginia married Loren Dean Laybourn on July 18, 1953.  They were married at Dean’s parent’s home south of Cope.  Virginia and Dean shared sixty-eight years together before Dean passed in 2021.

After Virginia and Dean were married they went to Sheridan, Wyoming for work.  They returned to the Cope area before Alan was born and remained in the area for the rest of their lives.

Virginia wore many hats she had four children before she was 21.  She helped Dean farm, along with waiting tables, selling real estate, owned a diet center, worked at the store and the post office in Joes and was Dean’s caregiver for as long as she could.  Virginia never knew a stranger.

Virginia was saved at an early age.  Her salvation was the most important thing in her life.  She tried to live a good Christian Life always thinking of others and doing what she could to help anyone.  The Lord has one more very special angel.

Mom never gave us a spanking we didn’t believe.  What was really scary was when she said wait until your Dad gets home.  Mom could always outrun us kids until she was in a severe accident in 1965.  Her left leg was shattered and required many surgeries.  She always had a limp after that along with other problems for the rest of her life.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Earvil and Lois Brooks; her husband

Dean; her brother, Carrol; in-laws, Fred and Alice Laybourn and grandson, Diamond.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Alan Laybourn of Cope; Brad and Laurie Wasilla of Alaska; Doug and Kim Laybourn of Cope; Christal and Steve Sears of Joes, Colorado; her sister, LaVeena of Florida; grandchildren, January, Kylee, Lucas, Colton, Kelsey, Kalen and Nate all with the last name of Laybourn; Angela and Brodie Sears along with nine great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cope Cemetery in Cope, Colorado with Pastor Terry Covert officiating.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
