Virginia Ruth Bitterman, 74, passed peacefully at her home in Littleton,
Colorado on December 19, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents,
Theodore and Velma Ruth Bitterman, and brother, Fred Bitterman. She is
survived by her two sons, Vernor Lee Toland of Orlando, Florida and Vaughn
Nicholas (Melissa) Toland of Littleton, Colorado, and her beloved cat, Chikku.
She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Haverland of Otis, Colorado, and
her two brothers, Stephen (Lana) Bitterman of Otis, Colorado and Timothy
Bitterman of Byers, Colorado.
Virginia was born in Akron, Colorado. She spent her childhood growing up on the
family farm northeast of Otis, Colorado. After graduating from Otis High School in
1965, she moved to Denver to attend cosmetology school, and it was there she met
Victor Lee Toland, an Airman in the U.S. Air Force. They married and raised two
sons in Aurora, Colorado. In addition to being a steadfast mother and wife, Virginia
had a successful thirteen year career as an Academic Advisor at Metropolitan State
University of Denver.
Virginia had several hobbies she was passionate about. She loved exploring and
traveled extensively throughout the United States as well as many locations around
the world. She was always ready for the next adventure. She enjoyed quilting, trying
new restaurants, completing crossword puzzles, reading daily devotions in her
Portals of Prayer, rooting on the Denver Broncos, and watching Hallmark movies.
As a devout Lutheran, Virginia’s faith in God was the cornerstone of her
life. She attended Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado and
cherished attending weekly Church services, Sunday school classes, and
Bible study group.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29,
2022 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1701 W. Caley Avenue, Littleton,
Colorado 80120. The burial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday,
December 29, 2022 at Yuma Cemetery, Westscott Avenue, Yuma,
Colorado 80759. Fellowship with family and friends will follow at 4:30 PM
at First Presbyterian Church, 181 Weld Street, Otis, Colorado 80743.
