Violet Marie Custer

1928 – 2018

Violet Marie Custer was born on September 19, 1928 to Clifford and Bertha Frances (Frazier) Spicknall in Bladen, Nebraska.  She passed away on March 24, 2018 at the Brush Hospital in Brush, Colorado. 

Violet attended school through the 8th grade.  On November 4, 1944 she married Floyd Matthew Custer in St. Francis, Kansas and to this union four children were born, sons, Kenneth and Danny Ray and daughters, Karen and Ruby. 

In her early years, Violet cleaned houses some of her jobs included Richey Funeral Home and the Yuma Bowling Alley.  In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting with her husband.  She was an avid bowler for many years, she was thrilled when she was able to bowl in at least one tournament with each of her granddaughters.  She loved her outings to Blackhawk with her daughters.  She looked forward to Wednesdays because it was spent playing Yahtzee, having dinner and going to Bingo with Ruby.  Some of her favorite past times was putting together jigsaw puzzles and reading.  Best of all though, was the time spent with her family who will miss her dearly. 

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Bertha Spicknall; infant son, Danny Ray Custer; husband, Floyd Custer; infant granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Gertge; sisters, Laura Dresen and Zenelda Mathies; son-in-law, Michael Gleason and daughter-in-law, Correne Custer. 

Left to mourn Violet’s passing are her children, Kenneth Custer of Yuma, Colorado; Karen Gertge and husband, Adam of Sterling, Colorado and Ruby Gleason of Brush, Colorado; her grandchildren, Brenda Newby, Angel Oliver, Tom Gertge, Michelle Seifert, Aaron Gleason and Crystal Gleason along with sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild many other relatives and friends. 

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Yuma, Colorado with CRE Randall Feather of the First Presbyterian Church of Otis, Colorado officiating.  Interment will follow at the Yuma Cemetery.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
