Ulene Victoria Sagehorn

Ulene Victoria Swedberg was born February 7, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa.  She died June 30, 2025 in Holyoke Colorado at age 96.

The only child of John Albin Gotthard Swedberg and Hannah Caroline Rapp Swedberg, Ulene grew up on farms in the Holyoke area. Her family lived southwest of Holyoke before moving north to the Fairfield community.  After her father’s passing in 1949, Ulene  and her mother moved to Holyoke.

Ulene graduated from Holyoke High School in 1947 and went on to attend business college in Denver. She returned to Holyoke and a job at the Highline Electric Association where she worked as a bookkeeper and assistant to the manager until her marriage to Harold Sagehorn on August 10, 1955.  Ulene and Harold lived on a farm 2¾ miles east of Holyoke on Highway 6. Harold farmed and ran a Mobil Oil distributorship while Ulene did the bookkeeping, helped move equipment and meals to the field, and tended her large vegetable garden. She continued to live on the farm after Harold’s passing in 1996 until she moved to Carriage House/Regent Park in 2015. 

The couple had three sons: Gary, Keith, and Ray. In addition to her roles for the farm and business, Ulene was active in nearly all of the boys activities. She served multiple years as a grade school “room mother.”  Later she helped with 4H projects and supported their involvement in Future Farmers of America.  She was an active member of Fairfield Covenant Church, leading Wednesday night kids groups for many years. In the 1970s, Ulene worked with others from the Holyoke High School Alumni Association to add missing graduate names and portraits to the posters at the high school so that all graduates since 1903 were represented there.

A graveside service for family and friends was held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Burial at Holyoke Memorial Park followed.

Ulene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and her grandson, John D. Sagehorn.

Survivors include: Sons Gary and wife Cindy of Lakewood, Colorado; Keith and wife Diane of Holyoke; and Ray and wife Ursula of Fort Lupton, Colorado.  Grandchildren Andrea Sagehorn of Littleton, Colorado; Jadon Sagehorn of Littleton, Colorado; Elisa Kohler and husband Seth of Lancaster, Ohio; Ross Sagehorn and wife Carley of Fort Lupton, Colorado; Hannah Hladek and husband Jeff of Edmond, Oklahoma; Mitch Sagehorn and wife Mallory of Boulder, Colorado; eight great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
