Thyra Schaefer passed away on June 1, 2024 in Haxtun, Colorado at the age of 92 and a half. Thyra was born to her parents, Peter and Elizabeth Ottosen on December 22, 1931.
During her youth, she would walk to the school with her younger brother and sisters and would always keep her younger brother out of trouble and made him attend the classes and do his lessons and choirs. Later on in life she fell in love and married Lee Schaefer, and started a life together in Haxtun. She would help her husband in the Enco Gas Station and American Parts Automotive Business that he operated in Haxtun where their oldest son Dave also helped with the family business before he took over and continued to operate the business.
She enjoyed being with her family, friends, and traveling with her family, rock hounding and being in the general outdoors, doing gardening and yard work.
Up to the time of her death she enjoyed traveling and talking with, and being with her son and daughter-in-law. She always enjoyed having her other family members and friends come over to visit and talk.
Thyra is survived by her by her sons, Dan Schaefer (Mariko Schaefer), Tony Schaefer, daughter-in-law, Kathy Schaefer and granddaughter, Elizabeth Schaefer along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Thyra was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Schaefer; her oldest son, Dave Schaefer; parents, Peter and Elizabeth Ottosen; brothers, Roy Ottosen and Roy’s spouse, Lorene and Bill (William) Ottosen. Sisters Ruby Whitney and Ruby’s spouse George; Marjorie Bunning and Marjorie’s spouse Frank; Maxine Miller; Dorothy Holcomb and Dorothy’s spouse Jack;
Thyra will be missed by her family and friends that knew and loved her.

Service – June 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Inurnment followed at Fleming Cemetery in Fleming, Colorado.
