Shirley Vivian Witte was born on November 15, 1928 near Idalia, Colorado to Harry L. and Lydia (Kuk) Thomas. She passed away on December 31, 2019 at the Harmony Home in Yuma, Colorado, at the age of 91.
Shirley received most of her education in Vernon, Colorado but graduated from Ellicott, Colorado. She continued her education with a semester at Fort Collins with some extension classes to be a teacher.
Shirley married Clarence Eugene Witte on June 11, 1950. The union was blessed with three children Marilynn, Kris and David. Shirley and Clarence were married almost sixty-one years before Clarence passed on April 4, 2011.
Shirley taught school in the late 40’s and early 50’s. She was the weight master during the sugar beet season in the early 70’s. However, her best job of all was being a homemaker, farmer’s wife, mother and grandmother.
Shirley collected many things buttons, being her specialty. She enjoyed travelling, dragging her husband along whenever she could.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lydia Thomas; husband, Clarence Witte; brothers, John and Rawlin; sisters, Dorothy Wingfield and Eunice Haskell; her father and mother-in-law, Christian and Louise Witte.
Shirley will be missed by her children, Marilynn (Paul) Lynch, Kris (Mike) Cook and Dave Witte; grandchildren, Jon (Ashley) Lynch, Jeremy (Laura) Lynch, Nicki Lynch, Megan Cook, Kirsten Cook, Lauren Cook, Brad Witte, Nick Witte, Breann Witte; great grandchildren, Cayden Lynch, Conner Lynch, Carson Lynch, Charli Lynch, Jack Lynch and KJ Lynch.
The funeral service was held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis FitzPatrick officiating. Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
