Shirley Ann (Boyd) Higgins was born on August 29, 1947 to L.C. and Thelma Boyd in St. Louis, Missouri. Thelma gave Shirley to Edith and James Bradley to raise. Edith changed Shirley’s name to Linda Jean. Edith and James had three sons, Jimmy, Butch and David. Edith and the children moved to Yuma, Colorado in 1962.
Linda (Shirley) met Benny Higgins in 1963 and they were married in December 0f 1964. Before they got married Linda’s name was changed back to Shirley Ann. This was very confusing to everyone except her family as they continued to call her Linda.
Benny and Shirley had three children, Bobby LeRoy in 1965, Linda Lou in 1968, and Danny Dean in 1971. They lived in Yuma until 1972 and then moved to Nebraska for three years. While in Nebraska, Shirley drove a school bus.
The family moved back to Yuma in 1975. Benny was a water well driller and Shirley helped him on the rig off and on for several years. She worked at the sugar beet plant, cleaned houses, drove the transportation bus, waitressed and bar tended. She played taxi driver for the bar when needed.
Her hobbies were playing the guitar, singing, dancing, fishing, camping, playing pool, playing cards and board games. She loved playing Rummikub with Lois. She enjoyed going to the nursing home and singing for the residents there. She also did karaoke with Patty.
Shirley loved traveling to see her mom and brother, Butch in Tucson, Arizona and to O’Fallon, Illinois to see her favorite Aunt Lee Adlesperger and cousin Patricia and Gene Snarer, whom she was raised with like a sister. She also went to see her cousin Dorene and husband Howard Crumpler in Clyde, North Carolina and cousin Judy Lane Henry in Famington, Missouri. She wanted very much to go to Portland, Oregon to see her brother, Jimmy and his family and to Baltimore, Maryland to see brother, David and family, but she never got there.
Shirley is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, Benny Higgins, son, Bobby Lee Higgins, Aunt Lee Adlesperger, brother-in-laws Howard Higgins and Billy Higgins.
