Roxanne Miles was born September 16, 1950, in Holyoke Colorado to Agnes and Kayle Russell. Roxanne passed away peacefully in Holyoke on April 24th. Her final weeks were spent with family, friends and her husband Ronald by her side.
Roxanne and her brother Robert grew up in Holyoke. Roxanne graduated from Holyoke High School in 1968. While in school, Roxanne was a cheerleader, played in the band, and performed in school plays. It was at Holyoke High School in 1965 where Roxanne’s close friend Dixie Linnenbrink set her up with her cousin Ron, and the next 60 years is history.
After high school, Roxanne and Dixie attended Barnes Business College in Denver together. Then Roxanne returned to Holyoke where she and Ron were married on June 21, 1969. Together they had two children, Bret and Jennifer. She took great joy in raising them and was a frequent treat volunteer, party planner, and driver of a van full of kids to a gymnastics meet or ball game. As her children aged, her role changed, but always first and foremost focused on activities of her children and their friends.
Together Ron and Roxanne built a strong farm in partnership with Ron’s brother Richard Miles. Roxanne applied her business skills to perform accounting for the farm and became an expert grain cart driver. Many years Roxanne would spend time on the grain cart with her sister-in-law Rochelle Major where they supported the family enterprise while still finding time for some crafty project from their tractors in between loads.
When Ron and Roxanne could get away from the farm, it was almost always the beach. Many Sundays were spent at Lake Enders creating special memories with their close friends and their families. In later years, they found themselves on the beaches of Mexico, Playa, and Cozumel many times. Roxanne and Ron cherished the many trips they took together. They especially enjoyed trips with their grandkids and their best friends: Dave and Linda Williamson and Dick and Carol Stratton.
Roxanne and Ron probably traveled more miles to their children’s and grandchildren’s events than their many trips to Mexico and Hawaii! As the grandkids grew, Roxanne and Ron were always on the road and a regular fixture in the bleachers and on the sidelines at volleyball, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and bowling tournaments. If the grandkids had an activity they could get to, Roxanne and Ron were on their way.
Roxanne has been a fighter for many years. Roxanne beat breast cancer pushing through surgery, treatments and all the side effects with a clear goal of more time with family and friends. The last year and a half, Roxanne battled new health issues choosing to take on dialysis treatments at home, once again to go through whatever it takes to have more time watching her grandkids grow.
Roxanne will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and Nana. She is survived by her husband Ronald; children Bret and wife Nancy of Holyoke, Jennifer Hannan and husband Tobin of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; grandchildren Nathan Miles and Dylan Miles of Holyoke, Hayley Hannan and Logan Hannan of Greeley; brother Robert Earl Russell and wife Judy of Aledo, Texas, nephew Brian Russell of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law Richard Miles and wife Marva of Denver; sister-in-law Rochelle Major of Mankato, Minnesota, and nephews Jim Keeling and wife Naomi, and Marc Major and partner Sean Metzger of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her parents Kayle and Agnes Russell, and Ron’s parents, Bud and Lucille Miles.
The funeral service will be held at the Methodist Church in Holyoke on May 6 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at the Holyoke Cemetery. Baucke Funeral Home is directing the service.
