Richard (Rick) Lee Roth was born December 31st, 1947, to the parents of John and Mildred Roth. Rick was born the fourth of five brothers: Don, Jim and Bob and the youngest brother Mike. He grew up south of Kersey working the family farm and dairy. He attended Platte Valley High school in Kersey, Colorado and graduated in 1965. Rick met his wife, Ava (Alles) during those high school years. They later married in January 1966. Rick remained devoted and committed to Ava throughout their 57 years together. Following their marriage in 1966, Rick and Ava began farming in the Kersey area while also starting their family. It was during their first five years in Kersey that they were blessed with their three children: Sheri, Sheila, and Mark.
Shortly after their youngest Mark was born, Rick bought a farm south of Yuma, Colorado in 1970. They moved to Yuma as a family in the spring of 1971 where Rick successfully continued to expand his farm into a substantial family operation. Rick was known for his passion for farming. He was a great mentor to his employees, led by example, and was a valuable resource for local farmers. Rick was actively involved in the community where he served on various boards.
Rick’s love for his grandchildren was primary in his later life. Rick was blessed with seven grandchildren. He never tired of spending time with them, including many huge family trips to the mountains of Colorado and the beaches of Mexico.
Rick had many other passions including golf and fanatically supporting his beloved Rockies, Nuggets, Broncos and Yuma Indians. He was a tremendous supporter of his community. This support was exemplified by over 40 years as a dedicated season ticketholder at Yuma High School’s “The Pit.” Rick’s unwavering support was rewarded when several of his grandchildren won state championships in their sports. Rick’s love for Yuma was returned. Rick was a widely loved and respected member of the community where he was affectionately known as “Double R.”
Spending time on the golf course with friends was one of Rick’s great joys. As an example, Jerry McPherson was his golf partner for over 40 years. Through it all they remained friends! However, while many people consider themselves lucky to ever have one hole-in-one, Rick was able to accomplish it twice.
Rick is survived by Ava, his wife of 57 years as well as his children, Sheri (Doug Morton) of Yuma, Sheila (Spencer Zinn) of Denver, and Mark (Jen Roth) of Yuma. Additionally, he is survived by his seven grandchildren Connor and Cade Morton, Foster and Holden Zinn, and Peighton, Kenedy and Elliott Roth. He is also survived by three of his brothers Don Roth of Scottsdale AZ, Bob Roth of Lucerne, CO, and Mike Roth of Evergreen, CO.
Rick was preceded in death by parents John and Mildred Roth, and brother Jim Roth.
