Peggy Gae Schuler, 81, passed away on Monday October 20, 2025.
Peggy was born September 7th, 1944 in Julesburg, Colorado, and spent the majority of her life on her family’s farm south of town. Growing up on the plains, Peggy had a deep love for animals, horses, and the rural way of life that shaped her day-to-day life. As a young girl, Peggy went to country school District 11. Peggy was active in 4-H and could often be found on horseback. She also served proudly as Worthy Advisor of the Julesburg Rainbow Assembly, showing her dedication to community.
A graduate of Julesburg High School’s Class of 1962, Peggy went on to attend Northeastern Junior College before returning back home to the family farm in Julesburg.
Peggy worked at Dean’s Men’s Store, Spears Drug, Davis Motors, ASCS Office, served on the board on the Amherst Co-op Elevator, and helped at the Carlson Ranch. When her father passed in 1977, Peggy and her older brother Gary continued their family farming operation, working countless acres together and kept the farm thriving for many years.
Peggy’s love of animals was endless — she raised cattle, horses, sheep, llamas, donkeys, peacocks, and exotic prairie birds. She was also an active member of the Golden Spurs Rough Riders Drill Team, and National Pony Express, sharing her horsemanship and spirit with friends across the community.
After retiring from farming, Peggy continued her life of service by working at the nursing home in Julesburg, caring for others with kindness and humor. She later moved to Holyoke in 2020, where she made new friends and continued her favorite pastime — taking a drive in her shiny pickup truck to see what was going on around town. In 2025, Peggy moved to Windsor to be near her dear cousin Ronnie Koch.
Peggy will be remembered for her sharp wit, good sense of humor, and the way she could always brighten a room with a story or a well-timed joke.
Her beloved dog, Sammy, has found a new home — a fitting reminder that Peggy’s love and care continues on through the lives she touched.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Milton and Mabel Schuler and her brother Gary Schuler. Peggy is survived by her sister-in-law Donna Schuler, nephew Shayne Schuler, niece Shannon Thomas, and cousins Ronnie Koch, Linda Dolezal and Jack Schuler.
