Nadja Young Obituary

Nadja Christine Young, passed away on February the 12th, 2025 in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born on December the 23rd, 1970 to Richard Lee and Cheryl Leanna McCasland Shaffer in Yuma, Colorado.

Nadja spent most of her school years in Yuma graduating from Yuma High School in 1989. Soon after, she started working first for her Aunt Mary at the Beacon Cafe and then as a home health care worker, providing care for John Holtorf. It was at this time that she met her future husband, Allen Young. On February 4, 1995, Allen and Nadja were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church of Yuma. The new family included Nadja’s daughter, Kelsey. The three of them moved to Dallas, Texas for a year, returning to Yuma for the next few years. In Yuma, the family added two more daughters, Taea and Melanie. The family was on the move again back to Texas, finding a home in Lancaster, Texas and raising their three beautiful daughters. Nadja worked as a substitute teacher and in the cafeteria at the school where their girls attended.

Nadja received her Baby Blessing on Sunday, March 7, 1971 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Yuma. In Texas, the family attended the Church of Christ in Ovilla, Texas. Brother Nick Charles became her lifetime pastor although her membership was with the Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Her favorite past time was going to the lake and fishing. She couldn't be outdone fishing, always catching the biggest fish. Nadja loved her girls very much. She adored her grandchildren Carson, Cohen, Emery, Carter, and Michelle. Nadja loved swimming in the backyard pool and playing with them all.

Nadja is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorral and Vada McCasland and her mother Cheryl Edwards.

She is survived by her father, Richard Shaffer, her loving husband of 30 years, Allen Young, children, Kelsey Peterson and son-in-law James, Taea Young, and Melanie Young, grandchildren, Carson, Cohen, Emery and Carter Peterson, and Michelle Buford.  Siblings include Rick, Nick and Nicole Shaffer and Kim Harman.
