Michael Stanley Moore was born on October 17th, 1946. He was the oldest child to Stanley Carroll Moore and Manona Belle (Van Horn) Moore. Born 5 minutes before his twin brother Tim, Mike was the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters. He passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2024 at 77 years of age.
Manona previously worked for United Air Lines, which is where she met Mike’s father Stan. It didn’t take long for Mike to discover a love for all things aviation. He learned to fly from Wesley “Bud” Wall, who was one of the best there ever was. Mike also attended aircraft mechanic classes at Colorado Aero Tech College.
Mike was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a Combat Engineer.
Mike spent his free time flying, talking about flying, competing in trap shooting, racing motorcycles and cars, and flying. He attended every airshow, fly-in, air race, and any aviation event he could. You could always find Mike at the airport, whether it be for work or for fun. He would get nervous, and critical, when anybody but him flew an airplane; airline pilots included. He was always willing to help anybody who would ask, especially if beer or family was involved.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother Manona, father Stanley, and sister Tammy. He is survived by his many brothers Tim, John, Steve, Kenneth, Kevin, and Colin; sisters Sara, Kathleen, and Julie; son Michael and his family, daughter Michele, son Max and his wife Amber and their daughter (Mike’s granddaughter) Henley; too many nephews and nieces to list; and wonderful friends.
Many thanks to the good folks at Yuma District Hospital and Banner North Colorado Medical Center for their continued and persistent support as Mike’s health declined over the years.
Services for Mike Moore will be held on July 5th 2024, time to be determined. He will be laid to rest at the Yuma Cemetery.
