Max Metzler Obituary

Max Gene Metzler was born in Sterling, Colorado on August 4, 1950 to William Metzler and Dorothy (Chandler) Metzler.  He passed away in Wray, Colorado on July 1, 2022.   Max was the youngest of three brothers and was raised on the family farm South of Anton, Colorado.   This is where Max learned to farm, work cattle, and grow hogs.  Max went to school in the Arickaree school system and graduated from Arickaree in 1969.  He went into the National Guard in 1970 and was in the reserves until 1976.   During this time, he met his wife Christine (Meis) Metzler and they were married on October 24, 1971 in Akron, Colorado.  To this union three children were born Aaron, Clinton, and Crystal Metzler.

At a young age Max was always fascinated with driving semi trucks.   He went on to purchase his own truck and hauled corn, wheat, potatoes, hogs, cattle, and sprinklers.  Max was always ready to tackle the maintenance of his own truck if that meant overhauling an engine with his son Aaron or pulling out dents and painting with his son Clinton.  Max also enjoyed farming when he wasn’t driving truck.

Max trucked enthusiastically for over 45 years and enjoyed it immensely until he was no longer able.   Max had an excellent personality and was a friend to everyone he met.  He loved making people smile, laugh, and telling jokes.

Max was preceded in death by his parents William and Dorothy Metzler, his daughter Crystal, his brother Rick Metzler,  sister-in-laws Kathleen Meis Cecelia Lester, and Linda Metzler.

In passing, he leaves his wife Christine of 50 years, his son Aaron and his wife Kay Metzler, his son Clinton and his wife Dominique Metzler, and three grandchildren, Makenna, Mason and Wyatt Metzler.  He also leaves behind his brother Rex Metzler, sister and brother in-laws Sherrie and Don Hansen, Sandy and Nelson Taylor, Clayton and Peggy Meis, Julie Meis,  and Debbie Metzler and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
