Marylin Meineke Obituary

In Loving Memory of Marylin Meineke

Obituary

Marylin Meineke, born on September 24, 1930, in Sterling, Colorado to Edward and Genevieve Kaepernik, passed away on October 29, 2025, in Colorado Springs.

Early Life and Education

Marylin was the eldest of four children. She attended school in Sterling, Colorado, graduating from Sterling High School in 1948. During her school years, she played in the orchestra, showcasing her musical talents from a young age.

Marriage and Family

Marylin married Robert Meineke in Sterling, Colorado in 1948. They had two sons before moving to Skull Creek in 1958 for Robert’s job. The family later lived in Ovid and then Yuma, Colorado. During their time in Yuma, their daughter Amy was born in Wray, Colorado. In her later years, Marylin resided in assisted living facilities in Nebraska and Colorado and spent time living with her son Derald in Yoder.

Musical Contributions

A gifted musician proficient in both piano and violin, Marylin’s talent was nurtured from childhood, with daily practice encouraged by her family. In Yuma, she chose to teach music, and many residents fondly recall her piano, organ, and violin lessons.

Community Service

While living in Skull Creek, Marylin volunteered as the school bus driver, ensuring local children made it to class safely. She began with a 1961 Ford Falcon station wagon and later upgraded to a small school bus. Her sons, Harold and Derald, were always on-time to school with their mother behind the wheel.

Fiber Arts and Philanthropy

Marylin dedicated her time to fiber arts, making quilts and knit caps for newborns at Yuma District Hospital. In retirement, she crafted blankets, hats, and mittens for South Dakota Native Americans, premature babies in Greeley, and recently crocheted blankets for a Calhan food pantry with Brenda. She described her work as a devoted passion and enjoyed all fiber crafts.

Faith and Church Involvement

Marylin was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Yuma and later in Calhan, Colorado. When attending services in person became difficult, she joined her family in watching broadcast services from The First UMC of Colorado Springs.

Family and Legacy

Marylin was predeceased by her parents, Edward Carl and Genevieve Kaepernik; her husband, Robert Meineke; siblings George, Alice, and Ganet; and grandsons Dustin and Scott. She is survived by her sons, Harold (Debby) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Derald (Brenda) of Yoder, Colorado; her daughter, Amy of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; grandsons Robert and Reid; granddaughters April, Jenna, and Olivia; as well as numerous great-granddaughters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
