Mary Lebsack Obituary

Mary Lou Lebsack, age 85 of Holyoke, CO, joined her Lord and Savior on September 29, 2025.

She was born on September 26, 1940, in a farmhouse near Lanesboro, Iowa, to Lewis and Dora Dirks.

She attended the local schools, and graduated in 1958 from Holyoke High School. In the summer of 1958, she met a wonderful man named Richard (Dick) Lebsack and they married September 6, 1959. She would have followed him anywhere, but they stayed in Holyoke on the farm north of town for 66 years. The farm became a Centennial farm in 2020, as it had belonged to the family for 100 years.

She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran Church. She drew strength and comfort from her faith and the cherished community of the church throughout her life.

Mary Lou spent her entire life for the joy of others. She was blessed with hands that loved to quilt. A number of family members have a quilt that she quilted with lots of love!

Mary Lou and Dick spent 66 years as farmer/ranchers. They spent 24 years with the traveling disease, enjoying part of their retirement during winters in both Arizona and Texas, where they met and made long lasting friends. Mary Lou met ladies that shared her love of quilting in these travels. She also loved spending her days volunteering at a 2nd hand store in Texas.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Dick; their daughter Laurie, and husband Larry of Yuma; their son, Curt, and his wife Brenda of Holyoke. Four grandchildren; Heidi and husband Brian Black, Michael Baucke and wife Casie, Briana and husband Brenden Worley, and Erin Lebsack; plus 6 great grandchildren, Aubrey and Drayden Black, Aspen and Greyson Baucke, and Bryce and Breck Worley; and sister-in-law Colleen Lebsack, along with many nieces and nephews and friends.

Mary Lou’s philosophy in life was to leave this world a better place than she found it, and this came through with everyone she touched in her life with her quilts and projects to be finished and to be shared with others. Over the years, she made lots of lap robes for the local hospital and nursing home, plus nursing homes in Texas.

She loved watching grandkids and great grandkids at various activities throughout the years.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Lewis and Dora Dirks, sister Dorthy and husband Doyle; brother LD and wife Phyllis; nephew Derek; her in-laws Jacob and Natallia Lebsack, brother-in-laws Allen and Robert, and sister-in-law Francis.
