Marilyn Kay (Standley) Morris

Marilyn Kay Standley was born July 2, 1942 in Akron, Colorado and passed away quietly in her sleep on June 2, 2021 at Yuma Life Care in Yuma, Colorado.

            Marilyn was the Seventh child of Clifford Aubrea Standley and Jannie Marie Shockey Standley.

            Young Marilyn grew up on the farm South of Otis near the now Arickaree School.  But she started school in Otis and then moved to Denver when her parents went there to work.  She attended a special school for children with disabilities and learned the basic school subjects; ways to live in the world being as independent as she could and also learning different trades.  Marilyn also took piano lessons and did recitals.  Brother Ron would attend if other families were working.

            After completion of her education she enjoyed working for the Wyatt Cafeteria chain where she wrapped utensils and gathered table setting accessories as well as other duties. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people.

            Marilyn married Bruce Morris on December 5, 1980. They loved to travel, camp and fish and go on adventures in their little purple car.  Bruce was a member of the Elks Lodge in Denver and included Marilyn in many money making events and they often dressed as clowns and Bruce would pull Marilyn in a wagon as they waved and threw candy.

            Bruce and Marilyn moved to Otis and lived in the Homestead Apartments. After Bruce died in 2006, Marilyn moved to Yuma and into the Manor where she was closer to the doctors and had many more activities she could attend and be a part of.  She was happy there and cherished her independence.

            Marilyn loved to do jigsaw puzzles, read, play cards, play Bingo, go gambling in Black Hawk, CO; do crafts, attend family get-to-gathers and dinners, get her nails and hair done, shop and listen to Elvis Presley.  She especially loved Great Grand nephew Hunter Laybourn and his baby sister Delaney Hansen.  She was always buying some gift or trinket that caught her eye for them. She liked to take Hunter on rides around the block of her home, with his hair flying in the breeze and stopping to show him off to other residents of the apartments.

           Marilyn persevered to handle and try to overcome her disability and health problems.  She was a good person, kind and patient most of the time, but when riled...be prepared.

            Left behind to recall memories of Marilyn is her older sister Wilma Mounce and husband Larry from West Baldwin, Maine; Brother Robert Standley and wife Ellen of Otis, CO; and and older sister Nancy Jaszai and husband Arpad of Aurora, CO.

            Preceding Marilyn's death was her parents Clifford Aubrea Standley and Jannie Shockey Standley; brothers Floyd Standley, James Standley, Ron Standley; and also a younger sister, Dixie Standley Gomez.

            Those left to remember Marilyn are many nieces, nephews and their families; other family, friends and acquaintances.

            Memorial contributions to Marilyn's memory will be given to several of her favorite organizations.

            Funeral services will be held on June 12, 2021 at the Otis Presbyterian Church; Pastor Randy Feather officiating.  Songs are, “When I Get Where I'm Going”; “Amazing Grace”; and “Wind Beneath My Wings”.      

            Burial will be in the Otis Cemetery with Baucke Funeral Home officiating.
