Lynn Hagemeier

Elno Lynn Hagemeier lived a life full of love, adventure, laughter and service to others.  Lynn was born on June 22, 1949 in Sterling, Colorado.  He was the second child of six born to Elno Otto and Anna Mae (Nealy) Hagemeier.  Lynn passed away peacefully at home in Eckley on Sunday, June 14, 2026 after a short battle with colon cancer.  Lynn grew up on farms south of Fleming, moving to the family farm in 1953. Lynn was Baptized on May 11, 1953 at the New Haven Methodist Church.  He attended elementary school at New Haven and high school in Fleming.  He went on to graduate from Fleming with the class of 1967. He loved working the land & would rather weed the garden than do any household chores.  Lynn was an athlete, playing on many sports teams throughout high school, participating on many state bound teams and winning a few championships.  He was also active in theater, even playing the lead male role opposite his sister, Jody.  He was the best brother, he could be counted on to give good advice and he even brought his mom and baby sister home from the Hospital.  Lynn played sports well into adult hood, playing intramural baseball and basketball at NJC, fast pitch softball, slow pitch softball and umpired many slow pitch softball games in Eckley.

After high school Lynn attended NJC obtaining his associates degree in Education in May of 1969 and then transferring to UNC in Greeley.  Before his senior year he decided to take a break and moved to Denver with his cousin, Jim Bell.  Lynn worked for the City and County of Denver, the Botanical Gardens, and at The Kennedy golf course where he was part of the grounds crew and caddied.  While there, being a lefty, he collected enough clubs for a full set and taught himself to golf.  Lynn found his way back to northeast Colorado where he began working for Furrow Harvest as part of their harvest crew.  The crew stopped in at the J & J cafe in Eckley, Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Diane Probasco in 1977.  Lynn and Diane were wed in Eckley, Colorado on August 19,1978.  They made their home in Eckley where they were blessed with their first son, Andy in 1979 followed by son, Joe in 1981,  daughter, Kelly in 1985 and son Elno (Bud) Lynn II in 1986. Lynn worked for Northeast Fertilizer out of Eckley until he, Diane and his brother-in-laws started Guy Farm Ranch, where they lived, farmed and ranched north of Eckley. In 1989 Lynn and Diane moved their young family into Eckley where they lived for the rest of his life.  After the partnership of Guy Farm Ranch dissolved, Lynn went to work for Western Pork, later known as Murphy Brown & later as Smithfield, in 1995. Lynn held various jobs during his tenure with the company, site manager, trucking and feed mill manager and maintenance manager before retiring in 2016.  Lynn and Diane also owned Hagemeier Trucking from 2002-2018. During his retirement he bought cattle and worked part time for the town of Eckley, finally retiring officially in 2018.  He continued to run cattle and it became something he enjoyed doing with his son’s and grandsons. 

Lynn’s greatest joys in life was his family.  As an avid outdoorsman, the family enjoyed many summer adventures camping at Bonny Dam, North Sterling, McConaughey, Trenton, Jumbo, Swanson lake, North Michigan reservoir, and Turquoise Lake to name a few.   The days were spent on the boat fishing and the nights around the campfire, if you weren’t at the shore fishing.  He loved the Hagemeier camping trips to the Colorado mountains with his five siblings and their families.  Uncle Lynn could be found helping set up fishing lines, making sure everyone got a chance to fish on the boat and teaching nieces and nephews how to clean fish.  He enjoyed teaching his kids how to hunt and spent many weekends pheasant hunting during the winter.  Most always coming back with something for Diane to cook. As a sports enthusiast, he would spend hours playing whatever sport his kids were playing with them.  The kids remember riding on the back of the pickup to the Eckley ball field to practice baseball and softball. Shooting hoops on the homemade hoop, football in the front yard,  playing catch and croquette in the backyard.  He coached many teams passing on his knowledge and love for baseball and basketball over the years.  If he wasn’t actively playing or coaching, he was watching sports every night of the week, even golf through his Sunday afternoon naps. Lynn became a Granddad in the fall of 2002 and was blessed with seven grandchildren.  He thoroughly loved being a Granddad and enjoyed chasing them to all of their events not missing many.  He was their biggest fan.  He passed on his love of the outdoors to all of them and each of them have special memories on the boat with him. In 2024 he became an ordained minister so that he could officiate his Granddaughter, Jenae’s wedding.  Lynn was a gifted musician, loved singing and he could play the piano. He was asked to sing in many friend’s weddings, church specials at the Eckley Community Church and even sang with his siblings at the 100th Old Settler’s celebration in Eckley. Lynn truly had a servants heart and served & volunteered on many boards and organizations.  He was a trained weather spotter and never hesitated to go out and assist with weather calls. He was a member of the Eckley Volunteer Fire Department, holding various offices, a Trustee on the Eckley Town Board, Eckley Community Center Board, Yuma County Planning Commission, Yuma Rural Fire Protection District and Yuma County Landfill Board.  He retired from the Planning Commission in 2025 and was honored for his many years of service, so many in fact there aren’t digitized records of when he joined. He was still serving on the Yuma Rural Fire Protection District at the time of his passing.  

Lynn leaves behind his loving wife, Diane of 48 years, his son Andrew (Tabatha) Hagemeier of Wray, CO; son Joe (Melinda) of Yuma; Daughter Kelly (James) Crossland of Yuma and son Bud of Eckley.  Grandchildren Jenae (Garrett) Armstrong of Orchard, CO; Grandson Jake Hagemeier of Eckely, CO; Rozlynn Crossland of Yuma, Scarlett Crossland of Yuma, Viviann Crossland of Yuma; Rylan Hagemeier of Wray and AJ Crossland of Yuma. Sister Patricia (Roger) Morris of Greeley, CO, Jody (Chuck) Tansey of Aurora, CO, Brother Roger (Vera) Hagemeier of Sterling, CO; Teresa Hagemeier of Aurora, CO; Melissa (Tim) Maharry of Alva OK; Brother-in-laws Kenny Probasco of Yuma, CO; Tim (Karie) Probasco of Eckley, CO; Tony (Janice) Probasco of Eckley, CO; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Elno and Anna Mae Hagemeier, Parents in-laws Keith and Dolores Probasco. Maternal Grandparents Gus & Myrtlel Nealy; Paternal grandparents Lenard Andrew & Malinda Hagemeier. 

Visitation is at Baucke Funeral Home in Yuma on Thursday, June 18, 2026 with funeral services on Friday, June 19, 2026, 2pm at the Eckely Community Church with internment at the  Eckley Cemetery immediately following.  Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma is in charge of arrangements.
