Lucille Fast Obituary

Lucille Callista (Swogger) Fast, 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Wray, Colorado. She was born on March 28, 1935, in Stratton, Colorado, to Floyd and Callista Swogger. An only child, Lucille found companionship and joy in the many dear cousins who enriched her childhood.

Lucille began her education at St. Charles Catholic Church and later attended Stratton Senior High School, where she was a spirited cheerleader alongside lifelong friends.

On January 27, 1952, she married the love of her life, Walter Leeloyd Fast, and together they built a beautiful life for 58 years of marriage. They were blessed with five children: Kenneth Lee, Linda Jo, Norman Dean, Douglas Ray, and Janet Kay. After their wedding, they settled briefly in Joes, Colorado, before moving to Denver, Colorado, where they raised their family. Once her children were of school age, she went to work at Vollmers Bakery to help provide for her family.

Upon Walt’s retirement from Public Service, the couple returned to Joes, Colorado, settling on the Fast family homestead. During this time, Lucille lovingly cared for her mother, Callista, and her father-in-law, Cornelius.

Lucille lived a life defined by love and devotion. She was a dedicated daughter, a devoted wife, a selfless mother, a cherished grandmother of 10, loving great grandmother of 10, and a loyal friend. She took immense joy in attending her grandchildren’s activities, playing cards with her family, and working on crossword puzzles. Family was always her greatest treasure, and she beamed with pride when speaking of them. She also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved pups Pepe, Daisy, Maya, and Jodi.

After Walt’s passing, Lucille relocated to Wray Colorado, where she spent her remaining years surrounded by love and care first in her independent living apartment and then at Hillcrest Care Center and The Towers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Fast, her parents, Floyd and Callista Swogger and her parents in-law Cornelius and Mary Fast.

Lucille’s legacy lives on through her children: Kenneth (Charlotte) Fast, Linda Miller, Norman Fast, Douglas (Janelle) Fast, and Janet (Randy) Slater. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Norman Fast Jr., Joshua Fast, Nicole (Dave) Gevry, Tera Miller, Michelle (Daniel) Branscum, Jessica (Tyler) Herbst, Kimberly (Tyler) Hood, Felecia Owen, Kayla Fast, and Kristin (Michael) McKinley, as well as her great-grandchildren: Dayton, Dylan, Cayden, Adalyn, McKinley, Bodhi, Luka, Hadley, Hayes, and baby boy McKinley on the way. .

She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

A special thank you to her caregivers, Art, Michelle, Joleen and her two daughters Linda and Janet for their compassionate care, kindness and love.
