Leota Sue (Carton) Thayer was born on February 26, 1950 to Leo and Joy “Kathy” (Landis) Carton in Boulder, CO, she passed away on Jan. 15, 2025 in Sterling, CO at the age of 74.
Leota married Michael Thayer on Aug. 8, 1967 in Longmont, CO.
Leota’s working years were filled with various different opportunities which included Owl Tree Land & Livestock, co-owner; Sterling Regional Medical Center, administrative: Dr Teresa Hill Chiropractor, admin.; Janda Family Dentistry, admin.; Holyoke School District, bus driver; US Postal Service mail delivery.
Above all else, Leota enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed the company of children and was particularly proud of her grandchildren. She was always eager to help others and went to great lengths to lend a hand whenever needed. When not dedicating her time to building, growing, and improving her farm, she was working in the garden, raising chickens, and tending to the house. She adored her pets – caring for several cats and dogs. In her downtime, she was active on social media, read and colored books.
Leota attended Lafayette High School and later Northeastern Junior College.
Leota is survived by Micheal Thayer, Sterling CO (spouse), Donna & Kameron Knight, Holyoke, CO and Eric Thayer & Kimberly Jackson, Durango, CO (children), Taylor Knight, Wichita, KS and Taryn Knight, Holyoke, CO (grandchildren), Loraine Adams, Dan Carton, Carol Selby-Oliver, and Brad Carton (siblings)
Preceded in death by mother Joy “Kathy” Carton and Father, Leo Harold Thayer.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb., 15th 2025 at Gary Desoto Building, Logan County fairgrounds, Sterling, CO 80751.
