Kellie Swopes Obituary

Kellie Kay Swopes was born on April 19th 1970 to Glen and Doris (Kerst) Imhof. She passed away April 5th 2019 at the YDH with her family by her side.

Kellie grew up in the Lone Star community, she was the youngest child and the only daughter in a family of seven. She often told stories of her early years on the farm. One of her favorite ones was when she was driving the tractor while her dad was tending the drill boxes and made a complete round only to see her dad sitting on the ground where the boxes had run out of seed. When Kellie was young she would stay at her grandmother Lizzy’s traveling the world from behind her armchair and having her hair braided, she often talked of this time.

Kellie attended the Lone Star School where she was a gifted if not mischievous student. She was a member of the stage band, playing keyboards and clarinet, and traveled to the World’s Fair to perform with the rest of her classmates. She graduated in 1988 as the top student of her class of one. Although she was the only student in her class she had to have a 4.0 to be Valedictorian which she did. After high school she attended Morgan Community College for 2 years.

Kellie married Jim Swopes on June 6th, 1992, bringing to this union a rambunctious son, Jeffrey Lee Timmens. Kellie and Jim welcomed home a beautiful daughter, Sadie Jeanette Swopes in 1994 after a long and labored birth. It was decided at this time that the family was complete.

Kellie enjoyed the outdoors and went camping on numerous occasions. She especially enjoyed the trips to Blue Mesa, even though the boys didn’t want to take her, but Glen made them. She enjoyed being with family and friends, playing cards, dice, or dominoes, and spending many hours cruising around listening to music. She had a great love for animals, especially her cats and her favorite dog Scooter, who she had to say good bye to last November.

Kellie was blessed with a granddaughter, Rori, in 2012, and then a grandson, Aiden  in 2016.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents and her father. She is survived by her mother Doris, brothers Leslie, Doug and wife Theresa, Eldon, and Kim and wife Kathy, and their families, husband Jim, son Jeffrey and girlfriend Crystal, and daughter Sadie, grandchildren, Rori and Aiden. She had a great love for her family and friends and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at the Yuma Cemetery on April 15th, 2019 at 10:30 A.M.  Any memorials may be made to the family.
