Karen Ruth Hershfeldt was born January 15, 1955 to Clyde and Merna Markussen.  She entered into eternal life February 17, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Karen grew up and graduated high school in Ogallala, Nebraska.  After graduating she worked at TRW in Ogallala.

She met the love of her life, Gary, in 1973 and they were married May 24, 1975.  With this union they had four children, Amber, Andrea, Jenifer, and Paul.  The family lived in the Sedgwick and Ovid area before moving to Holyoke.  She worked at Comfort Things sewing bible covers before going to work for Speer Cushion.  She was at Speers for 26 years only to retire to be able to take care of her grandbabies.

Karen was most passionate about her family.  She doted on her grandbabies as they were her pride and joy.  She enjoyed hosting annual cook outs and always looked forward to the annual family camping weekend.  She loved camping whether it be at Lake McConaughy or the mountains.  She enjoyed the Colorado Rockies and spending summer weekends on the golf course with family.  She also golfed on the Lady's Golf League.

Karen's heart was so big that if you were a friend, you were family.  She loved having people around her.  She was the happiest when she had her family all in one spot.

Karen is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Amber, husband Trent Odens, granddaughters Brynlee and Maren of Springfield, SD; daughter, Andrea of Holyoke; daughter, Jenifer, husband Phil Hancock, gandsons Benjamin and Carter of Greeley, CO; and son, Paul, wife Michelle, grandsons Camden and Dylan of Greeley, CO.  Mother-in-law Peggy Hershfeldt of Holyoke;  brother Buck and wife Judy of Ogallala, NE; sisters, Barb of Ovid, CO, Bev and Terrie of Segdwick, CO, Phyllis of Madrid, NE, Sandy of Ogallala, NE, and Connie of Norton, KS.  Sister-in-laws Joan, Julie and husband Dan, Janet and husband Garold, and Marlene Dirks and Mike Miller all of Holyoke, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Merna Markussen;  father-in-law Paul Hershfeldt;  granddaughter Emily Odens;  and brother-in-laws, Lon, Jay, Roger, Rex, Steve, and Derek.
