Iva Jane Bird

Iva Jane Bird was born July 6, 1932 to parents Richard C. Wagner and Wilma Atkinson Wagner near Schramm Colorado. She passed away peacefully on June 9 2018. She was 85 years old.

She was baptized at age 11 in the Baptist faith in the Republican river in Wray Colorado by pastor Orville Majors.

Iva Jane Bird attended school at Schramm for eight years. She then transferred to Yuma High School and graduated in 1950. She has several certificates from NJC.

She met and married Lester C. Bird of Yuma Colorado. They were married Oct 23, 1950 in Wray Colorado. To this marriage two children were born, Donna Jane and Donald Lester. They made their home 18 miles north of Yuma near Clarkville Colorado. They moved in to the town of Yuma in 1966.

She was an avid bowler. She started bowling with the neighborhood ladies of Yuma in 1952. Her first bowling team consisted of Winnifred Peterson, Hazel Burg, Elenor Myers, Lucille Hassman, and herself. She bowled on the Monday Night Bowling League. She went to state bowling several times. She later did travel league on Sundays, and went to national bowling a total of three times.

She started driving a school bus in 1970 in Yuma Colorado. She drove for 14 years, and enjoyed driving the kids to school activities.

She was a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

She retired from “Work” and babysat the neighborhood kids as well as her grandkids. She became grandma to everyone. She was usually happy and cheerful; no one was a stranger to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Wagner and Wilma Atkinson Wagner and step father Howard Malone, Husband Lester Bird, son Donald Bird, Sisters Inez Taylor and Paulene Cook, Brother in laws Clarence Taylor, and Thomas Cook, Nephew Thomas Cook, Great Granddaughter Saadia Rutz.

She is survived by daughter Donna Aagesen and husband Ricky Aagesen, Grandchildren Elizabeth and James Basham, Jonathon and Kayla Aagesen, Jeanetta and DeCal Smith, Santana and Colin Bassnett, Elan Dennis, and Nate Henderson. Great  grandchildren DeVon Smith, Jazmine and Riley Bassnett, and Peyton Basham, and a host of several family and friends.

Services for Iva Jane Bird will be held at the Southern Baptist Church on Friday June 15 2018 at 2 P.M. Officiating the service is Pastor Chris Gilmore. Baucke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
