Ervin Edward Packer, age 94, of Yuma, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Yuma.
Ervin was born on May 9, 1932, in Seibert, Colorado, to Lawrence Packer and Lillie (Kibel) Packer. He was raised in Joes, Colorado, where he graduated from high school. After High School Ervin worked at a moving company before joining the United States Army and remained active for 2 years. After his military service he worked many jobs and had 5 children. Ervin lived in Weld and Adams County CO for many years before moving to Kirk, CO in the late 1990's.
On November 17, 1990, Ervin and Beverly (Diener) Packer married. Together they shared many happy years until Beverly’s passing on January 18, 2017.
Ervin spent his career working in construction and carpentry, where his strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident in everything he built. He took great pride in working with his hands and creating lasting craftsmanship.
Ervin proudly served in the United States Army, entering active duty on January 19, 1954, and serving honorably until January 18, 1956.Ervin stayed with the United States Army Reserves for an additional 6 years, ending his service duties January 18th, 1962.During his military service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal in recognition of his dedication and honorable service to his country.
Ervin had a deep love for writing and wrote many short stories for the Southern Star. He enjoyed creating stories and documenting his family history, preserving memories and stories that will be treasured by generations to come. Ervin enjoyed working with his hands creating beautiful projects with wood.
Ervin is survived by his children, Douglas Packer, Daughter in law Stacy Packer, son Dale Turley and Son in Law Ryan Whiting. Brothers Everett, Otto, Paul, Ora, and Glenn Packer. He was also blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, and stepchildren Duane, Dan, DeeDee, Deitra, and Doug Swigert. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews and loved his family dearly. He was especially close with his nephew Rob Sullivan and niece Cindy Matticks.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly Packer; his parents, Lawrence and Lillie Packer (Kibel) and 2nd father Albert Packer; his children, Dirk Packer, Arlene Whiting, and Ervin Packer Jr.; and his siblings, Iva, Juanita, Leona, Erma, Ilda, and Eugene.
A funeral service will be held at Kirk Cemetery on June 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. followed by some food and refreshments at the Grassroots Center in Joes Colorado at 11:30am.
Ervin will be remembered for his quiet strength, hardworking spirit, devotion to family, and the stories he lovingly wrote about the "Good old Days" and his family’s history. His legacy will live on in the memories he created, the words he wrote, and the lives he touched.
