Erma Louise Stinnette Hargreaves was born Dec. 1, 1924. She died Sept. 21, 2019, at the age of 94.
She was the second child born to Elliot and Nellie Newman Stinnette. Erma was delivered by her Grandma Newman and a country doctor at her parents’ home near Hiawatha, Nebraska.
The family later moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, where she attended Blue Ridge School. When Erma was 7, the family moved near Champion, Nebraska, where she attended District No. 17.
After graduating from the eighth grade, Erma started at Chase County High School, having to live in Imperial, Nebraska, at a boarding house. She was only able to go home on weekends. Erma graduated from Chase County High School in 1942.
While in high school, she met the love of her life, Raymond Hargreaves. On May 11, 1947, Erma married Raymond in St. Francis, Kansas. This union was blessed with a daughter, Dola Ann. The family spent their lives farming and ranching south of Holyoke.
Erma was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Prairie Gem Club.
Erma and Raymond retired and moved into Holyoke in 1982. They enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and having coffee with friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Elliot and Nellie Stinnette; brother, Kenneth Stinnette; and husband, Raymond Hargreaves.
Survivors include her daughter, Dola and husband Wayne Salyards of Holyoke; granddaughter, Sheri Bussell of Kearney, Nebraska; granddaughter, Mendi and husband Mark Lutze; and great-granddaughters, Ashlin Bussell, Jadin Bussell, Josilyn Lutze and Janessa Lutze.
Graveside services were held Sept. 24 at Holyoke Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Erma’s name to Holyoke First United Methodist Church.
