LaRetta was in awe of her Mom's knowledge of how to fix things. Elma always said she learned it all from Bob after working side by side at Interstate Irrigation and home caring for the cattle, gardening, and raising chickens. It was during this time a special friendship flourished with Kenneth and Irma Mountain. They enjoyed fishing and dove hunting, playing penuckle. Many memories were shared about the chicken plucking and cutting assembly system during family dinners. They loved antiquing trips. She and Bob raised schipperke pups which she teased bought Bob's cow feed.
After Bob passed this hobby was too difficult to enjoy so her new past time became volunteering. She volunteered with the Yuma Life Care Family Advisory Council until its closing. volunteered for nearly 20 years with the Otis Senior Center cooking many Potluck Entrees. Her specialties with LaRetta were Smothered Burritos and their Green Chili and spaghetti. Senior services were important to her as well. She served with the Washington County and Regional Area of Aging Advisory Councils for nearly 20 years. So that she could remain active she recruited LaRetta to these councils to keep voicing the needs of the Senior Citizens.
Besides work and volunteering she loved being Grandma and Great Grandma. Her favorite time of year was Christmas. She loved her Christmas Eves at the Otis Senior Center with family and friends.
