Duane Russell Meinte

Duane Russell Meinte was born on February 28, 1928, in Blue Hill, Nebraska, to Martin and Hattie Meinte.  He died on September 22, 2019, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colorado, at the age of 91.

Duane was baptized in March of 1928 and was confirmed into the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska.  He attended Phillips County High School and graduated in 1945.

Duane entered the Us Army in October of 1950 and served in the Korean War.  He was employed at the Amherst Co-op Elevator for nearly forty-five years before retiring as General Manager in 1992.  He was a Charter Member of the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department and served for 25 years.  Duane was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke and served on numerous boards. 

Duane married Lorina Martin (Grosshans ) on June 25, 1954 in Sterling, Colorado.  To this marriage a son, Mike, was born and welcomed into the family by 3 sisters and a brother. 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorna, brothers, Vernell and Keith, brother-in-law  Ray Leben, sons in law, Kenneth Heermann and Harold Jenkins, Gary Fulscher and Ed Holloway.

Duane is survived by his son, Mike of Holyoke, four step children; Naomi Heermann of Holyoke, Jim and wife Shirley Martin of Longmont, Mary Fulscher of Amherst, Carmen Holloway of Greeley and his sister Yvonne and husband Boyce Wernet of Holyoke.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on September 27, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Gray Rahe officiating.  Interment will follow at the Holyokle, Cemetery. Baucke funeral directed the service.  Memorials may be given to the Duane R. Meinte Memorial.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
