Dorothy Jane Meade, known to many as Granny, was a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on January 1, 2024, at age 73. Born November 8, 1950, to Herbert and Edna Brady. Dorothy was a proud Laramie native and held a deep appreciation for her roots. She will return there, with her ashes being spread over the Snowy Range Mountains in Wyoming. Raised alongside her brother, Wayne Brady, Dorothy was a hard worker. When Dorothy wasn’t helping out around the house, you could find her working as a waitress. In the summer of 1967, Dorothy married Robert (Bob) Morton. In 1968, they welcomed their first and only daughter, Dawna. While raising their daughter, Dorothy and Bob started their own tool shop in Laramie called D and B Tool Service. They divorced in 1976. Dorothy moved to eastern Colorado where she met Richard Meade. During this time she worked for Cope Gas and Equipment, she did custom haying, and also ranching. She loved her cows, especially her favorite, Annie. Some of her favorite hobbies were golfing and checking cows with her friends, which always included a cold beer. In 2005, Dorothy purchased Jo’s Liquor. She loved her customers, and knew this would be where she would retire. Dorothy’s life was anchored in her family. When she wasn’t working at the liquor store, you would find her spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed movies, music, jigsaw puzzles, and camping. She is survived by her daughter, Dawna Hastings (Zane) of Joes, CO. Her grandchildren, Lee Hastings (Meghan) of Kirk, CO and Lorna Lydick (Kenny) of Spokane Valley, WA. Great grandchildren include Keenan Lydick, Daxton Hastings, Judson Lydick, Hadlee Hastings, Reagan Lydick, and Layla Hastings. Dorothy was preceded in death by parents Herbert and Edna Brady, brother Wayne Brady, ex-husband Richard Meade, and great grandchild Cameron Hastings. A Celebration of Life followed by a lunch reception, will be held at the Grassroots Community building in Joes, CO starting at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations will go to South Y-W Ambulance, P.O.
