Doris Jean Scott

Doris Jean (Schaefer) Scott, 86, passed away in Haxtun, Colorado, on March 3, 2024.  Doris was born on August 27, 1937 in Sterling, Colorado, to Ben and Martha (Brekel) Schaefer. 

Doris graduated from Fleming High School in 1955.  She received her nursing degree and became an RN in 1956.  Doris married Wayne Scott on August 24, 1957 in St. Peters, Colorado.

After working as a nurse for a few years, Doris began her career in the Post Office in 1969.  She was the Post Master of Holyoke, Colorado, when she retired in 1992.  In 1994 Doris started her own vending business known as “Bubbles, Etc.”.  She was crowned Mrs. Colorado in 1968.  Doris also spent her life on the family farm raising crops and cattle.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Martha Schaefer and her daughter Terrie Scott Abraham.

Doris is survived by her husband Wayne, her children Julie (John) McGrath and Dona (Jack) Willmeth and six grandchildren Brandon Abraham, Taylor Abraham, Jake McGrath, Jessica McGrath, Kent Willmeth and Dawson Willmeth.  She is also survived by her sister Mary Lu Moline of Aurora, Colorado. 

Rosary – Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. at the Christ The King Catholic Church in Haxtun, Colorado.  Funeral Service – Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Christ The King Catholic Church in Haxtun, Colorado.  Father Jerry Rohr officiated the service and Baucke Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
