Dickie "Dick" Dexter McCasland

Dickie Dexter McCasland graced this world with his presence on May 19, 1944 at the Yuma Hospital.  He fulfilled his dream of meeting his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on February 14, 2019.  Dick was the youngest child of 10 born to Earl & Opal McCasland. He had 5 brothers: Lorrain, Dorral, Lile, Marvin and Don; and 3 sisters: Betty, Coeta & Mary Jane and another sister that died at infancy.

        Dick attended the Yuma Schools through freshman year which is the year he met the love of his life, Karen Roundtree. They dated through her high school years then married on Dec. 20, 1964.  To this union five children were born: Crystal Ann, Earl Wayne, Brian Max, Robin Kristina and Travis LaVoine.

        Dick & Karen lived in Denver for a few years with Dick working at the brick yard.  OH, the stories he would tell in later years about the fun, the pranks, & the work that he did there. After that they moved to Eckley, CO where they lived until 1978.  It was then that they finally settled in the country where Dick’s parents had lived, and they still reside.  Dick was a farmer by trade until 1995. It was then that he called himself a handyman doing carpentry, painting and odd jobs until his health failed. He & Karen loved the farm & shared many good memories of teaching & raising their children, as well as other children that they “adopted”. Of course, no farm is complete without animals and many animals they have had.  He would tell the story of an old sow that they had.  If you didn’t feed her first, she would jump every pen to get to where you were feeding. Well, one day his friend & Pastor at that time, came to the farm & wanted to help. Dick sent him to the opposite end to feed and that sow started jumping pens to get to where he was feeding.  Dick had never seen anyone jump a fence so fast.

Dick loved the church & to fellowship with his friends. He & Karen raised their family believing in Jesus Christ & the Holy Bible.  He was blessed and so proud that he got to participate in the baptism of his son Travis & grandchildren Kordell, Kenzie & Kennedi.  He also witnessed the baptism of his granddaughter, Tiana. He was always talking to his children & grandchildren about serving God and how important it is. 

        Mostly Dick enjoyed doing things with his family.  Whether it was camping, fishing, hunting or just sitting and visiting he wanted his family near him. In his healthy years, he liked to take road trips on the motorcycle with Karen, go camping at Beecher Island, go fishing or take the kids and church kids water skiing at Bonny Dam.  He gained many friends that started coming to Yuma to go pheasant hunting; friendships that continued until his passing. He also enjoyed all the great times they had at the Beacon, which was his sister, Mary Jane’s restaurant. We are sure there are many tales people could tell us about things Dick had said or stories he had told there. Part of his enjoyment for family was gathering all the families together for family reunions. He had always emphasized the importance of family and staying together as a family.

Dick was a character; he loved to joke & have fun. If he knew something good, funny or especially embarrassing about you, he would never let you forget it. He constantly kept up to date with the politics in this country and would debate his point of view whether you wanted to debate or not. Dick knew no stranger. He always complained about the women talking all the time, but we are pretty sure he out-talked us all.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Karen of 54 years, daughter Crystal, son Earl (Marie), son Brian (Sabrena), daughter Robin (boyfriend Guillermo), son Travis, special “son” Rob and special “daughter” Debbie (Neal). Grandchildren Nicholi (Char), Cody, Kordell, Kenzie (fiancé Kaleb), Tiana & Kennedi. And one great-granddaughter Stormy.  His brothers: Lorrain, Marvin, Don (Carolyn). His sisters: Betty Allen, Coeta (Francis) Perry, & Mary Jane Allen.  And many nieces & nephews & friends.

        He was preceded in death by many family members whose memories will be with us forever.

Dick often recited to people the truth behind his belief,bvn 

“You are only saved by the blood of Christ covering your sins”

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Yuima, Colorado with Brian Simpson officiating.  The interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery.  The service was directed by Baucke Funeral Home.
