Clydena Jane Alexander Miller, age 97 was born on April 9, 1927, and traveled to the house of the Lord on 7/18/24. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She was born in Center, Colorado and was the 5th child out of seven children resulting from the marriage of Elmer (Steamer) Alexander and Mary Isabelle Nevins (McGinnity).
She married Clarence Miller of Holyoke, CO on Sept 4, 1948. They resided and raised their family in the Holyoke area.
Clarence died on April 19, 2001, from complications of heart surgery. They were married 53 ½ years.
Clydena grew up on multiple farms in the San Louis Valley of Colorado and loved the mountains. She graduated from Hooper Colorado High School and attended Barnes Business College in Denver on a business scholarship.
She worked for a year for the D&R. G railroad in their central office in Denver, then for Gates Rubber Company in their Statistical department. While in Denver, she met Clarence through some mutual friends and fell in love with a dryland farmer far from her beloved mountains. The couple were married at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Denver on September 4th, 1948, and moved to their farm 16 miles Southwest of Holyoke to start their lives and family together.
This farmstead that was home to them was purchased from an elderly couple by the name of Consedine, and though it
was 16 miles from Holyoke, it was the center of barn dances every month or two when the full moon would land on a weekend. Friends and families from miles around would come to the Consedine barn for dancing, music and socializing.
They traveled extensively across the United States, Canada and Mexico. They rarely missed an opportunity to travel to Saguache Park Colorado for their annual fishing and camping trip. They would pack up their family, meet the Alexander families and leave the world behind for sometimes up to 2 weeks at a time. Together they would show the next generation how to survive in the wilderness and how to take care of nature.
Clydena was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Paragon Club and many other local activities. She was the CFO, Accountant, Secretary, Logistics manager, sandwich maker and phone message taker for Miller Trucking and Farms for many years. She wrote 2 books which were published and painted many pictures, saw blades and cream cans for all to enjoy.
Through those years, she was also fabulous and caring Mother and Grandmother to 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She always had time to visit friends who were ailing or lend a hand to all who needed it.
