Caroline Mary Daise, long-time resident of Holyoke, passed away March 4, 2021, at Devonshire Acres in Sterling. She was born on April 26, 1934 in Sterling to Frank and Mary (Brekel) Hoefler and grew up south of Fleming in the St. Peter’s community. After graduating from Fleming High School, Caroline worked at the First National Bank of Fleming until her marriage to Eugene Daise on August 11, 1956, at St. Peter Catholic Church near her family home. She then moved to Holyoke. Caroline was involved in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke, teaching catechism, singing in the choir, training altar servers, and serving as a communion minister. She was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, holding offices in both the local and deanery levels. She also held local, district, and state offices in the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a strong supporter of the Girls State program. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary, served as a 4-H leader, and worked as a supervisor at the Phillips County Fair. Caroline earned an Associate Degree in Business from Northeastern Junior College after her five children had already completed their Bachelor’s degrees. She also worked at the Heginbotham Library in Holyoke for a number of years.
Caroline is survived by her children—Dan Daise, of Denver; Shirley and Russ Poole, of Rockford, IL; Mary Daise, of Sterling; Debra Daise, of Charlotte, NC; and David Daise, of Rock Springs, WY. Grandson Brad Poole lives with his daughter, Genevieve, in Rome, GA; grandson Kevin Poole lives in Beloit, WI; and grandson Will Daise lives in Denver. Caroline is also survived by her siblings Andy Hoefler of Blair, NE; Jean Tomlinson of Oakdale, CA; Ben and Leona Hoefler of Athens, IL; Jerry and Judy Hoefler of Torrington, WY; Agnes and Terry Derby of Cheyenne, WY; and Mike and Jane Hoefler of Victor, MT; sister-in-laws Anne Hoefler of Dallas, TX; Karen Hoefler of Fleming, CO; brother-in-law Rev. Richard Daise of Colby, KS; nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents, and brothers Syl, Ray and Vince.
Visitation is Friday, March 12, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Baucke Funeral Home, 1220 SW Interocean in Holyoke. Recitation of the Rosary is Friday, March 12, 2021, at 7:00 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 541 S. Interocean in Holyoke. The funeral service is Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick. Interment is Monday, March 15, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Holyoke Cemetery.
