Carl Davidson Malchoff was born on January 19, 1979 to Keith and Lynn Malchoff in Canandaigua, New York and passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2025 at the age of 46. Carl attended preschool and summer recreation activities at Happiness House in Geneva, New York; a place that held a special place in his heart throughout his lifetime. While growing up, Carl participated in wheelchair sports as part of the “Rochester Rookies” from the ages of 6-10, where he built some special friendships that would last a lifetime. He traveled as far away as Fort Collins for a National Race, and New Jersey to compete in sprint races where he was more successful at waving to the crowd and flashing his smile than winning any time trials! Carl went on to attend Marcus Whitman School and graduated in 1998. After graduation, he attended Edinboro University in Pennsylvania for a year before moving back to Geneva to live for the next six years. Carl had a brief marriage to Tiffany before they both decided they were better off single. He then moved with his parents to Yuma, Colorado in 2006 and lived there until his passing.
Carl faithfully attended Reed Corners Federated Church in NY early in his life, and went on to join the First Presbyterian Church in Yuma, where he briefly served as a Session member. Carl had his special spot in the pews, and he will be greatly missed on Sunday mornings.
Carl had many passions; reading, music, US history, keeping up with social media, chocolate, and following the New York Yankees. However, none of this compared to his favorite passion in life; the Buffalo Bills! Carl would often throw out statements of “GO BILLS!” He followed stats and records and game times, but refused to cheer for anyone else that stood in the Bills way, including the Chiefs, the Dolphins, and the Broncos! Carl lived his life with a few key ideologies; “I never hurry, and I never worry,” and Bob Dylan’s quote of “All I can do is be me, whoever that is.” He valued kindness and gentleness to others, whether he knew them well or not. When communicating in-person became a struggle, Carl built an online presence where he would keep his followers, friends, and family updated on celebrity deaths, lyrics to classic songs, and movies that he enjoyed. He was witty and sharp and his humor blessed many.
Hats off to Sage Fritz, Tina Benedict, and Gwen Davidson who each helped Carl in numerous ways and allowed him to live in his home for so many years. Carl was predeceased by his grandfathers Keith Malchoff, Sr., and George Wells, and his grandmothers Hannelore Wells, Nelda Malchoff, and Dee Malchoff. He is survived by his parents Keith and Lynn Malchoff of Yuma, Uncle Chris (Debbie) Malchoff of Phelps, NY, Uncle Mark (Cindy) Malchoff of Plattsburg, NY, Uncle Doug (Betsy) Wells of Fergus Falls, MN, and Aunt Nancy (Eldon) Callahan of Colorado Springs. Carl is also survived by his sister Saralynn (Lee) Vetter of Yuma with niece Laurynn and nephew Rex, brother Drew (Karen) Malchoff of Medford, Oklahoma with nephews Thaddaeus and Titus and niece Hayden, six cousins (and built-in friends) and several great nieces and nephews. Carl will also be missed by friends and family scattered across the country as well as “Kramer,” his little dog with a big attitude!
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Yuma at 1 pm on November 11, 2025 with Reverend Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Carl can be sent to the Spina Bifida Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Yuma.
