Brenda Lee Prottsman was called home to be with the Lord on her 65th birthday, September 29th, 2025, in Holyoke, Colorado — the town she proudly called home. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Brenda’s presence was a light in every life she touched.
She was born in Humboldt, Nebraska, in 1960 to LeRoy and Eunice Krueger. LeRoy worked as a surveyor for an oil and gas company, which meant Brenda and her brothers spent much of their childhood moving from place to place, attending different schools and living in many states. These experiences shaped her adaptability, resilience, and deep appreciation for home, which she eventually found and cherished in Holyoke. She graduated from Holyoke High School and remained a loyal Dragon and proud community member throughout her life. She married the love of her life, Rick Prottsman, and together they built a life centered around love, family, and quiet resilience.
Brenda worked as an accountant at Pix, the hometown grocery store, where she brought diligence and joy to her work until a traumatic accident changed her path. While the injury ended her career, it opened a new chapter where she gave her whole heart to being a full-time mom, wife, daughter, and, later, the most devoted and loving “Grandma Beans” to her grandchildren, Oaklyn and Kyler.
She is survived by her two daughters, Brittney Lee and Brook Layne Prottsman; her grandchildren Oaklyn and Kyler; her brothers, Kim (Melody) and Kelly (Janet) Krueger. She is preceded in death by her cherished husband, Rick, and her parents, LeRoy and Eunice Krueger.
Brenda loved fiercely and selflessly. Whether it was caring for her family, loving on her animals, or cheering on her Denver Broncos and Nuggets, her loyalty knew no limits. Even with little, she always found ways to give back and help others — a true example of her compassion in action.
She had a mind that loved to stay active, filling her mornings with crossword puzzles, a cup of coffee, and The Price Is Right, a ritual she enjoyed for decades. She loved music, dancing and singing with a joy that outshone any lack of rhythm or pitch. Her laugh — especially those uncontrollable fits of giggles where she’d cover her mouth — will echo forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Brenda’s heart, strong and fragile all at once, bore many hardships — including a condition known as “broken heart syndrome.” But through it all, her spirit never wavered. She was silly, beautiful, and endlessly loving. Her heart wasn't just made of gold — it was a heart of diamonds, forged under pressure, unbreakable in its love.
“All that we love deeply becomes a part of us,” and Brenda's love is a part of us forever.
She deserves to be celebrated — not only for the life she lived but for the love she gave so freely.
"I am who I am because of your loving hands. I see the world full of wonder because of your imagination. I've learned to never give up seeing your drive and perseverance… I love you always and forever…" — Karen Kostyla
