Billy Foster Obituary

Billy (Bill) Lynn Foster, 73, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at his home in Haxtun, Colorado. Bill was born June 26, 1952, in Newcastle, Wyoming to George Leonard Foster Sr. and Lola Jean (Holbach) Foster.

Bill attended grade school in Sundance, Wyoming, and other area schools where he played the trumpet in the school band. Bill attended Sheridan Wyoming High School. He married Iva Roberts on May 30, 1970. Together they had three beloved daughters, Kim, Kristine, and Heidi. The couple later divorced.

Bill enlisted in the US Army in the early 1970s. Bill proudly served his country for twenty years and retired as an Army Sergeant First Class E-7. Bill spent most of his military career as a personnel specialist. Bill met the specific eligibility requirements and became an Army recruiter, applying his leadership experience. Bill’s military career took him to various U.S. military bases including Fort Richie (Maryland), Fort Carson (Colorado), Fort Knox (Kentucky), and Fort Ord (California). Bill also completed tours of duty in Panama and Germany.

Bill started rock hunting, collecting coins, tools, and knives at an early age. He bought his first pick up from his stepfather while in high school. He took pride in the many cars, pickups, vans, and boats that he owned throughout his life. He liked to keep his vehicles in tip-top shape. One of his favorites was a sky blue 1955 Chevy convertible. Bill enjoyed gambling, woodworking, boating, fishing, swimming, and snorkeling. He loved the ocean and had great memories of his time on the beach and boating while living in Panama and Hawaii. Bill loved the quiet, rural life. After his retirement, he purchased a small tobacco farm near Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where he and his family raised and cured tobacco, raised pigs, and had other farm animals. He had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his yard. Bill liked to cook a big pot of spaghetti or ham and beans and would eat the frozen leftovers for weeks. His Thai soup was to die for. Bill enjoyed spending time with his "big, little sister", Bonnie, (as he called her) and her husband Ken. He enjoyed driving the tractor, raking the arena, and taking care of the border collies. Bill was a voracious reader. His favorite authors were C.J. Box and Clive Cussler. He enjoyed reading sci-fi, medical thrillers and autobiographies. He loved watching old John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies and an occasional Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Bill held an undergraduate degree in theology and was well versed in biblical studies and church history. Bill was a homebody and somewhat of a loner, but when it came to family gatherings, he was a hoot! He loved having a short chat with his beloved daughters and family members on his old flip phone or on the patio.

Bill held several different jobs before and after retiring. He was an auto mechanic, farm worker, and a long-haul trucker carrying hides into Canada. He delivered milk from Idaho dairy farms to the processing plant, worked as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino, and performed maintenance and repair work alongside his brother-in-law, Lyle, among other jobs.

Bill is survived by his three daughters:

Kim Foster, Denver, CO Kristine (Foster) Hayden, Jamestown, Wisconsin. Heidi Sayenga, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, his grandchildren: Ashley, Jenny, Sam and Sean and their families, seven siblings and their families: Bonita (Bonnie) Mitts, Bill, Wyoming, George (Butch) Foster, Jr, Haxtun, Colorado, Donald Foster, Haxtun, Colorado, Jeanne (Jack) Winchester, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Pat (Doug) Wilder, Orofino, Idaho, Debby (the late Lyle McBride), Haxtun, Colorado, and Roxie (Bruce) Shaw, Fort Collins, Colorado, sister in law Bessie Foster, Webster City, Iowa, and a ton of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George Foster, Sr., and Lola Booth, his stepfather, Gail Booth, brother, Michael Foster, brother-in-law, Ken Mitts and many other beloved family members.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.

Bill's family and friends will miss him terribly.
