Betty (McCune) Lick
Betty Lou (McCune) Lick of Haxtun, Colorado passed away on April 20, 2025 at the age of 87 in Greeley, Colorado after a lengthy battle with dementia. Betty was born on the Thiesen Ranch south of Beloit, Kansas on May 31, 1937 to Howard and Martha McCune. While attending high school, Betty worked at a local cafe in the evenings. Betty graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, Kansas in May of 1955. Keith was in the armed forces at the time. They were married August 14, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Beloit, Kansas. They lived in Army barracks near the campus of Fort Hays Kansas State College in Hays, Kansas where Keith attended college. To this union four sons were born: Tim, Doug, Art, and Correy. After Keith’s graduation at Fort Hays State College they moved to Lewellen, Nebraska for two years where he taught school and coached at Lewellen High School. The family then moved to Haxtun, Colorado in the fall of 1960 where they resided ever since. All four sons graduated from Haxtun High School. Three of them then graduated from the University of Northern Colorado and one graduated from Colorado State University.
Betty was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun, Colorado. Betty worked as a secretary at Haxtun High School for twenty-eight years when she retired. Betty was a member of Ladies Aid of Immanuel since the fall of 1961. She enjoyed attending all four sons sporting events, and all other activities. They were indeed her true joy of watching them perform. Betty enjoyed quilting, canning, and sewing. Betty also enjoyed playing the piano at home, playing the organ during church services, and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She also loved to sing and enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and bowling.
Betty is survived by her four sons; Tim Lick and wife Emily of Yakima, Washington. Doug Lick and wife Cindy of Greeley, Colorado, Art Lick and wife Diane of Lakewood, Colorado, and Correy Lick and wife Jamie of Greeley, Colorado; grandchildren, Kevin Lick of Yakima, Washington and Kim Lick of Spokane, Washington; sister Iverne Wilson of Wichita, Kansas and brother Bradley McCune of Great Bend, Kansas.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Keith Lick in 2019, her father Howard McCune, her mother Martha McCune (Deeds), and her sister Alice Tencich. The memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun, Colorado on May 1, 2025 at 10:00 am. Inurnment will follow the service at the Haxtun Cemetery. Reception will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
