Bette McCormick Obituary

Bette Lou McCormick of Fort Collins, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2025 at the age of 85. Bette was born to Clarence and Maxine Barth in McCook, Nebraska on May 25, 1940. At the age of 5, Bette and her family moved to Holyoke where she spent her childhood years with her three brothers and one sister. In 1957, she graduated from Holyoke High School where she met the love of her life, Eldon McCormick. Bette and Eldon wed on December 24, 1958. Three children were added to their family: Angie Arnold (married to Richard) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Bret McCormick (married to Teresa) of Loveland, Colorado and Karina Ness (married to Brian) of Windsor, Colorado.

After high school, Bette attended Beth-El School of Nursing in Colorado Springs, where she earned her nursing degree. She went on to work as a nurse at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke and later an x-ray technician. She also trained to work in medical transcription and medical records, finishing her career as the Director of Medical Records. In total, Bette served Melissa Memorial Hospital for over 55 years.

Once retired, Bette and Eldon made the decision to move to Fort Collins to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In addition to their big move and retirement, they embraced their love of new experiences, becoming world travelers, enjoying countless cruises abroad, and visiting family and sights around the U.S. Although they could have traveled endlessly, they always made a point to take the time to support their grandchildren—and later great-grandchildren—never missing events, activities, or important moments.

“Present and engaged” are the words that best described Bette. She lived with enthusiasm and intention, embracing new experiences while showing up wholeheartedly for the people she loved. She delighted in attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s athletic and school events. Eldon and Bette also enjoyed local plays, newly released movies, and college sporting events.

Bette was a long-time member of First Christian Church of Holyoke, as well as Dayspring Christian Church of Windsor.

Bette is survived by her husband of 66 years, children and spouses, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her siblings and their spouses- Terry (Vernette), Dennis (Patsy), Larry (Janet), and Jacque (Jack)- and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at First Christian Church of Holyoke on Saturday, November 29th at 10am. Interment will directly follow at the Holyoke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation in Bette’s name.
