Allen Everard Davis was born on May 21st, 1935 in Hoxie, KS to Albion Everard and Sylvia Ferguson Davis, joining older sisters Noralea and Rosilea in the family. The Davis family relocated southwest of Yuma, CO in 1936 when Allen was just a year old. Allen remained living there until he retired in 1989 and moved to the city of Yuma, CO. Not being much for the cold, Pat and Allen also spent the last 28 years wintering in Yuma, AZ.
In his youth, Allen was active in 4H with projects in hogs and cattle. At the age of 15 he became involved with the 4H square dancing team where he was partnered with an 11 year old red headed girl by the name of Patricia Stallings. That was the beginning of their 74 years of dancing together. Dancing partners turned into best friends and later blossomed into love with them marrying 7 years later on June 2nd, 1957. The Davis family grew with the addition of Arick Eugene in 61 and Nickolette Louise in 63. They were Allen’s greatest treasures. Pat and Allen would know a love for each other that is rare nowadays, enjoying 67 years of wedded bliss until Allen’s passing on Tuesday, Sept. 24th, 2024.
Allen wore many hats in his lifetime. He worked at Amerada Oil Company as a seismographic driller. A short time later he joined the US Army and was semi-active for 5 years with medical issues. During this period he helped his parents on the farm raising poultry. The last year they had 17,000 turkeys. Allen’s favorite vocation was the development of his cow herd, growing it from 22 head to 250 head. His constant research of genetics and his determination made his cattle operation well known. Allen helped start and was on the board of the Northeast Colorado Bull Test Association. He also served as president of the Colorado Angus Association, Northeast Angus Association, and the Yuma County Cattlemen’s Association. He helped plan and start the Yuma County Cattlemen’s Association Steer Contest with benefits that helped with scholarships for qualified high school seniors. Allen was chosen as Yuma SCD Outstanding Rancher in 1981 and received the Bill Seward award from the Yuma County Cattlemen. Allen stayed very active as a member of the Yuma District School Board during the time his children were in school, and serving as a Boy Scout Webelo troop leader.
Allen was a very gentle and loving man to all of his family and friends. He became well known for his hugs and was the “park hugger” at their RV park in Arizona as well as at his Yuma, Colorado church.
Allen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Stallings) Davis; his children Arick (Brenda) Davis of Yuma, CO; daughter Nicki (Phil) Keesee of Higden, AR; grandchildren Kim (Jeff) Dupont; Tony Davis; Kari (Colen) Brauer; Alison Davis; Bremen Keesee, Eras Keesee, Levi Dobbs, Lacie (Clayton) Stricker, Aaron Stott; great grand children Preslie Dobbs, Emerson Brauer, and Sophia Dupont; sister in law Wynona Stallings and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
