Vincent LeeRoy Sackett (Bud), at the age of 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 18, 2018 while living at home. He was born May 10, 1928 to Harley L. and Lillian J. Sackett at their home in Regent, North Dakota. He enjoying ice skating, sledding, and going to Sunday School in Regent. Bud graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School in 1946. He was married on April 11, 1948 to Norma Jean (Jeannie) Pearson in downtown Denver.
He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps on January 21, 1948. The reserves called Bud back up during the Korean War and he was stationed in San Diego, CA. He was on a ship getting ready to ship out to Korea when they found out he could type, so the Marines kept him in San Diego.
Bud was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. Bud and Jeannie started their family in Cheyenne Wells, CO. Stephen Scott was born March 26, 1950 and Marlen Lee was born May 16, 1953. In 1961 they moved to Cope, CO to start Harmack Grain Company. After retiring from Harmack Grain in 1990, Bud and Jeannie traveled the United States purchasing and selling antiques. He also helped his sons at Sackett’s Inc. driving truck and anything else that needed done during the busy spraying season. In his later years, Bud enjoyed getting the mail and having coffee at the Cope Rec Hall. He was very supportive of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren and their activities.
Bud was a Deacon and Trustee at the Cope Community Church. His faith was a part of who he was, and he faithfully sent the devotional booklet “Our Daily Bread” to over 60 families every quarter and blessed multiple people with study Bibles.
Bud is survived by his sons; Steve (Linda) Sackett of Cope, CO; Marlen (Lori) Sackett of Sterling, CO; 6 grandchildren, Tara, Leif, Erica, Lindsey, Breann, Haley; 9 great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and father, and sister Linda Gerstner.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 29th,2018 at the Cope Community Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Terry Covert officiating. Everyone is invited to enjoy lunch after the service at the Cope Rec Hall in Cope. Memorials may be given to the Cope Community Church or South Y-W Ambulance Service. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
