Velma Marie Wettstein was born in Holyoke, Colorado on December 17, 1942. She passed away on January 21, 2018 at her home at Carriage House. Velma graduated from Holyoke High School and after graduating she attended Bernal Cosmetology College in Fort Collins, Colorado. Upon receiving her license, she returned to Holyoke and went to work for Ardie at Ardie’s Beauty Barr. Later she and her sister Frances bought the Sweet Shop, which they operated for several years. In 1985, she returned to Ardie’s Beauty Barr where she worked for thirty plus years.
Velma loved playing cards and she even taught Pastor Jeremiah one of her card games. He always seemed to win every time.
She was preceded in death by her parent s Lyle Wettstein and Margaret Gulley and sister Thelma Hackney. She is survived by brothers Gene Wettstein of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; David Gulley and wife Lori of Brush, Colorado; sister Frances Muths and husband Jim of Holyoke, Colorado and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Holyoke, Colorado. Pastor Jeremiah Krieger officiated the service. Inurnment followed the service at the Holyoke Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Melissa Memorial Hospital. Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
