Shirley Thompson Obituary

Shirley May Thompson was born on May 24, 1936 to Melvern and Sophia Miles of Holyoke, Colorado.  She entered into eternal rest in her home in Holyoke on October 7, 2018.

Shirley attended Haxtun schools and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1954.  She then went on to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado.

Shirley married the love of her life, Robert Leland Thompson, on September 4, 1955 in Haxtun, Colorado. 

Shirley worked for the Phillips County social services for years (35 to be exact).  While she was employed by the County she focused on the case work.  Her favorite part of the job was helping out young children in the community.  Shirley managed the bowling alley for years after retiring from the County. 

Shirley was involved in many clubs and organizations.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years.  She was a member of the church PEO, Rainbow Girls and PBW. 

Shirley was a very active person even in her later years.  Throughout the years she had many interests and hobbies that she enjoyed doing.  She really enjoyed playing card games but really liked being part of her bridge club.  Shirley enjoyed many different crafts.  She enjoys playing many instruments but the piano and French horn were her favorites.  She was an avid Rockies fan and she also enjoyed the Denver Broncos.  For many years she was an official score keeper for the Babe Ruth baseball games. She enjoyed attending Fire Department Racing Conventions.  Later on in life her favorite things to do were coffee club and she still really enjoyed being in the bridge club. 

She was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She thought that everyone in the community was part of her family. 

She is survived by her Husband Robert, Children, Marshall (Tina) Thompson of Holyoke, Tony (Georgia) Thompson of Akron, Colorado, Tammy (Doug) Lang of Salida, Colorado.  Her eight grand children, seven great grandchildren, Brother Marlin (Lou Ann) Miles of Grand Lake.

She was preceded in death by her Father Melvern, Mother Sophia, and Sisters Maxine Thomas and Virginia Miles. 

A memorial service was held at the Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, Colorado at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday October 13, 2018.  Pastor Jeri Soens of the Haxtun United Methodist Church officiated the service.   A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Haxtun Cemetery.
