Richard "Rich" Pappenheim Obituary

Richard Vaughn Pappenheim was born in Eaton, CO on March 10, 1939.  On March 10th, his 80th birthday Rich passed away peacefully after a short bout with cancer.  He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lydia and brother Ron.

Rich attended Eaton High School where he was an accomplished letter man athlete in football, basketball and track-n-field.  In 1959 after serving his country in the US Army he married his high school sweetheart Beverly Anderson of Eaton, CO.  Prior to starting his career in farming Rich was the friendly milk man in rural Weld County, CO.  In the early 60's he farmed in Eaton, CO then relocated to rural Yuma county in 1967.  In 1969 the family moved to their present home in the town of Yuma, CO.  Rich continued to farm until the mid-1980's at which time he began his career as mailman for the USPO.  As a rural carrier Rich was able to enjoy his beloved daily engagement with the agricultural community of NE Colorado.

For a period of time Rich raised and raced thoroughbreds.  He was also an avid fan of Yuma high school sports and was a fixture for years at Tribe home games.  Once his grandchildren were born he cherished the opportunities to attend their games both in Phoenix, AZ and Yuma, CO.  Rich also enjoyed his time on the links as his slice was amazing to see in action.  Once he retired he remained active in helping with harvest, playing cards, enjoying the guys for morning coffee and driving through the countryside.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Alan and daughter-in-law Shelly, daughter Debra and son-in-law Jim Stauffer, grandsons Joel Stauffer, Trey Pappenheim and granddaughters Michelle Stauffer and Tori Pappenheim.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yuma, Colorado with Pastor Dennis FitzPatrick officiating.  Interment follows at the Yuma Cemetery.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.  Given Rich's strong support of Yuma athletics the family is asking that donations be made in his honor to the Yuma Indian Booster Club, PO Box 444, Yuma, CO 80759.
