Maurice Duane Sunderman was born on October 16, 1927 to Arnold and Margaret Sunderman in Clarinda, Iowa. He passed away on April 5, 2018 at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island, Nebraska.
His family moved to Cheyenne Co. Nebraska when he was one year old and began farming. He graduated from Sidney High School in Sidney, Nebraska in 1945 and was drafted into the US Army in March 1951. He served as a Sergeant in the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. On September 26, 1954, Maurice married Shirley (Groshans) Sunderman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sidney, NE. To this union, Sandra Ann, David Duane and Stanley Ray were born.
Maurice and Shirley farmed near Anton, Colorado from 1956 to 1966. In 1966, he had the opportunity to purchase land north of Otis and establish his own farm. He was most passionate about farming and carpentry work.
During his time in Otis, he was active at St. Paul Lutheran Church serving on a variety of boards and committees, the Otis Lions Club, and the Otis Public School board.
Maurice enjoyed life; traveling, dancing and time with friends. He relished time with family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Margaret Sunderman; his brother, Raymond; and infant son, David.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his children, Sandy (Joe) Armstrong and Stan (Denise) Sunderman; grandchildren, Adam Armstrong, Jessica (Bruce) Wagner, and Aaron (Morgan) Armstrong; great grandchildren, Isaiah and Jonah Wagner and sister, Marilyn (Gene) Meier and sister-in-law Marian (Ray) Sunderman.
