LaVeta Marie (Neal) Draegert

LaVeta Marie Neal Doane Draegert was born May 23, 1932 north of Otis to Howard and Helen Mae Bowman Neal at their farm home.  She grew up in the Otis and Akron area.  She passed away on October 29, 2017 at the Ebenezer Care Center in Brush, Colorado.

She graduated from Akron High School May of 1950.  On November 11, 1950 she married Marvin Doane.  She did bookkeeping, kitchen work and odd jobs while they lived in Brush Colorado.  To this union 4 children were born.  Barbara Kay, Jimmy Eugene, Marlin Dean and Terry Lee.  Marvin was killed in an accident while custom harvesting August 9, 1962.  She married Dale Draegert on May 3rd of 1963 and she lived south of Otis on their farm until she went to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center after a fall in January of 2015

LaVeta’s family of children and grandchildren were her priority, she was accepting of them with unconditional love.  She loved to crochet and enjoyed sharing her creations with family and selling her beautiful work at craft sales and to local friends.  She grew a productive garden and did a lot of canning.  At harvest time she drove combine, helped her husband Dale farm and custom harvest for their neighbors.  She checked cows, water and fence daily in the summer months.  She made being a farm wife an art form.  She was excellent in knowing the process and where to be helpful.   Family dinners, following her children’s sporting events, bowling, being involved in Night Hawk Club, model T club and going to town each week were her favorite activities.  Living with a strong work ethic and principles of right and wrong left her family with a good example.

She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Helen Neal, her husband Marvin Doane, husband Dale Draegert and sister, Darlene Castrup.

Surviving her are her 4 children one daughter Barbara Kay Garrett and husband Terry of Brush Colorado; 3 sons, Jimmy Eugene Doane and wife Darlene of Brush Colorado, Marlin Doane and wife Barbara Jean of Nederland Colorado and Terry Doane and wife Kala of Anton Colorado.

She also is survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Yuma United Methodist Church Thursday - November 2, 2017 at 10:00 am. with Pastor Jaime Nieves officiating.  Interment will follow at the Otis Cemetery in Otis, Colorado.  Lunch to follow at the Otis Community Center.    Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
