Harvey Wayne Pletcher was born on December 21, 1931, the fifth child born to the union of George Washington Pletcher and Katie Glenn Pletcher. He was raised on the family farm 14 miles southeast of Yuma. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Georgia Ann; brothers Melvin and wife Mildred, Millard and wife Thelma, George and wife Florence, and sister Kathryn and husband Robert Wenger; father and mother-in law George and Anna Hall; and sister-in-law Dorothy and husband Basil Preyer.
Harvey graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1949. He married Georgia Ann Hall in 1951 and to this union was born three children, Daniel George, Julie Christine and Patricia Sue. In the fall of 1955 Harvey contracted polio and was hospitalized in Denver for an extended period of time and lost the use of his legs. Family and friends kept his ranch and farm operating until he was able to take over. For the remainder of his life, he never let his physical disability interfere with his goals and aspirations.
Despite not having the use of his legs, Harvey continued farming and ranching; developed and operated the Harvey Pletcher & Son Construction Company; and served as a Yuma County Commissioner for 12 years. He loved hunting, fishing and riding horses, and in his later years, enjoyed building and restoring firearms. Harvey was a loving father and husband.
Harvey is survived by son Dan(Cindy), daughter Julie, daughter Patty (Jan); grandchildren Justin, Adam and Landon Gates; Mendy (Mark) Oettinger; Pam (Tom) Roe; Lisa (Aaron) Scarborough; and Katie (Matt) Waldman; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 14th at 10:30 A.M. at the Presbyterian Church in Yuma with Pastor Jamie Fiorino officiating. There will be a private family inurnment. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
