Elizabeth Lou “Betty” Myer

1931 – 2017

Elizabeth Lou “Betty” Myer was born on February 24, 1931 in Holyoke, Colorado, the 7th child of Vernon and Leona (Daniels) Smith.  She passed away on December 17, 2017 at the Regent Park Nursing Home in Holyoke, Colorado.  She was 86 years of age at the time of her death. 

Betty was raised and educated in Holyoke, Colorado.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. 

Betty married Gerald H. Myer on March 26, 1960.  Together they raised her two sons and daughter and his two sons on a ranch near Parks, Nebraska. 

Later they moved into Haigler, Nebraska.  She cooked for many years at the Haigler Café.  And later on, she and Gerald mowed yards in the Haigler area. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Leona; her husband, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Mary Pihlgren; her first born sister, Katherine Darlene; 3 brothers, Sidney Smith;  Wendall Smith and his wife, Ramona;  Stanton Smith and his wife, Dorothy; sister, Lois Lakey and her husband, Bobbie. 

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Watson and husband, Ted of Hampton, Virginia; two sons, Charles Pihlgren and wife, Jinsoon of Fort Madison, Iowa and Bill Saylor of Delta Junction, Alaska; two step-sons, Tom Myer and wife, Charlotte of Wray, Colorado; Gary Myer and friend, Patricia Lowry of Lubbock, Texas; 2 Brothers, Robert Smith and wife Sharon of Sterling, Colorado and Gerald Smith and wife Carolyn of Holyoke, Colorado;  2 sisters,  Nancy Bradford and husband, Walter of Wray, Colorado and Patricia Warren and husband Leonard of Holyoke, Colorado  and sister in law  Bonnie Smith of Holyoke, Colorado; niece and caretaker Helen Miller of Amherst, Colorado; eight grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews cousins and a host of friends. 

There will not be a visitation/viewing or funeral.  There will be a family gathering at a later date at the Haigler Cemetery in Haigler, Nebraska.
